Hey Rick,
Tidbit: Did you know that before the soap we know today was created, lye was used as a soap to wash hands with? Lye aka sodium hydroxide was widely available but very harsh. People used to use it in varying strengths for various purposes till it was decided that it caused more harm than good and it was replaced with emollient and glycerin soaps which were much less effective but still helped to get a person clean without burning their skin.
Now others may grasp the reality of why no one wanted to have their mouth washed out with it for cursing.
HD-80 is hardly what we would consider soap nowadays but the term is in essence correct.
What used to freak me out is finding it in tubes of toothpaste and mouthwash as an ingredient for pH balancing along with some food ingredients as well.
Heck, drink a can of Coke and you are imbibing Phosphoric acid for that matter. The same stuff we use to clean masonry in industrial concentrations. Go figure.
Russ, sorry for the hijack, just wanted to add a little trivia to your soap reference.
Rod!~
