Another newbie - Nov 23rd, 06, 09:20 PM

Hi everyone, I have been looking at several forums for weeks and what I have seen on here is that there are very good educational discussions that go on everyday, and that is wonderful for someone like myself who is new to the business. I have just started my company within the last month I am only doing it part time because I am a offshore electrician. Hopefully though one day this business GOD willing will make enough profit to were I can work around home. So I will have plenty of questions if everyone can tolerate it, if so thanks in advance.

Thumbs up New to forum - Nov 25th, 06, 01:31 PM

Hi All,
New to this site...It's Great! A wealth of information. I live in Chester county, PA. Lot's of decks and houses to service out here. Did a few jobs 2 years ago(around 50) and they all turned out pretty well. This coming new year I am going to start up again and hope to build a good client base. I have alot of questions about the business. Any information on good advertising practices, products to use and bidding of jobs would be appreciated. I've done direct mail with good success and used yards signs, I have used Behr products to clean, strip, neutalize and stain decking. My price per sq. ft was around $2.00 a sq. ft. to clean, neutralize and stain a deck. A 10x20 deck would be around $400.00(railings, spindles and steps included in that price). Does this price seem in the ballpark for my location, is it high or low? I would like to get some help on bidding.
Thanks All!!
Hope to hear from you guys ..
Dan

Talking New member from Louisiana - Jan 3rd, 07, 07:38 PM

Hello All,

I’ve been lurking this forum and other related ones for about a month now. This place has been a great source of information AND inspiration. I am convinced that this industry and my business have a lot of potential in my area. I live in the fastest growing parish (county) in my state.

For now, I am a part-timer. My immediate goal is to grow my business quickly enough to quit my wage-slave job by this spring. I’m 24 years old and I cannot imagination doing this 40 hr a week grind for the nest 40 plus years. I’m not afraid of hard work. I just want to start seeing some genuine results of my hard work. That’s why I’m starting this business.

I am not completely new to pressure washing. I worked as an assistant property manager for several years and PWing was one of my duties. But I still have much to learn – especially in roofcleaning. I’d like to eventually expand into new construction cleanup and deck/wood care.

For now, I’ve decided to concentrate my services on residential – specifically housewashes and roof cleaning. If anyone in my area would like my commercial, deck/wood care referrals please contact me. I already had to turn down one commercial quote, which was just too large for me. L

For the past few weeks, I’ve been working diligently in setting up my new business (which is my first). The name (which should appear in my sig) is – Pristine Pressure Washing. I have all the licenses, insurance, etc. taken care of. I haven’t done much for marketing yet. I’m still researching the best use for my limited budget. I have had a classified ad in the business service directory of the local paper, which has yielded 3 calls, and my first job which starts this Saturday. I also have some ads up on craigslist (1 flaky response), and will be expanding to a total of 3 newspapers by this Sunday.

I have a TON of marketing questions, and I wish I could attend the upcoming Midwest roundtable.
I guess for now I’ll just stick to bumping old threads.

Thanks,

Daniel
