No. CA Waste Water Guidelines - Apr 20th, 04, 10:17 PM

I keep in touch with my EPA Regional Storm Water Coordinator (CO - Region 8), today he told me he is considering implementing similar guidelines as in this link. I'm sure most of you have seen this before, but I'd like to hear from anyone who practices them.

Any comments appreciated!

Newheights,

I read through the document. From what I am reading, sounds like sewer drains are the way to go. In some scenarios we must place a filter around the sewer drain (which we do). I am surprised the regulations do not talk more about reclaim. The other concern that I have is that this doucument is over 10 years old. I would think there is a more current version archieved somewhere but overall it is a start.

Our company is moving in the direction of getting a reclaim unit. One point about the regs. that are inpractical ~ they allow you to rinse of a parking lot with no soap and also allow the water to go in the storm drain BUT they prohibit the water from going down the concrete gutter to get to the storm drain -- mmmnn -- not sure how that would be accomplished.

Also, the regs suggest strong enforcement of these policies but I have yet to see or hear of anybody up here getting hit with a violation **knock on wood**

Jon/Alan - chime in on this as you two have reviewed similar documents in S. Ca.

Just a footnote to my previous post. I searched my entire county and city's website for anything similar to what I read --- nothing at all -- nothing even close.

I guess the plan is to use this document as a base and create a brochure of the guidelines. You're right, there is very little anywhere and this seems like a good way to get some info out. I'll be making some calls to get more info on this tomorrow. It looks like this is being put together by the Colorado Industrial Pretreatment Coordinators Association.

A few years ago I was applying for a mobile dischargers permit from the state. A long aggravating form, completed it w/a few questions so I called the state to clarify some things. They were so rude and the woman said, 'where did you get that application we don't issue those permits any more, what are you trying to pull!' She didn't believe I got it from their web site, had to have her navigate to it. Very frustrating trying to do the right thing! I bet that application is still on there too!

I have not made any calls ...yet...but I am sure I will as our company continues to migrate into the direction of reclaim. We do not want to invest thousands of dollars into reclaim if it is not necessary, but who do you ask? You are almost forced to do an overkill so that you know you are definately in compliance.

Let me know how the brochure turns out. I would like to see a copy of it when it is finished. Good luck Newheights.

If you're going to call try these contacts. I don't know any of them but they are listed as contacts for the No. Ca. program. CETA played a large part in creating the guidelines, they have them listed on their site as well (the guidelines).

Eugene Bromley Region 9 Stormwater Coordinator 415-972-3510
Tom Mumley Regional Water Quality Control Board 510-622-2395
Keith Regional Water Quality Control Board 510-622-2300
Geoff Brosseau BASMAA 510-622-2326

Best regards and good luck,

Due to the date on those documents, I am not going to read them, as much changes in that time span. Here are two links that talk more recently on the subject.

Thanks Alan,

I kinda figured there was a more "current" version out there and I also figured either you or Jon would be the ones that would post it
