need help with berms for blocking water - Apr 24th, 04, 04:22 PM

Hello Everyone,
I am new here and need some help. I will be recovering water with a sump pump and using a mighty mobile to separate/filter the wash water before pumping it into the sanitary sewer system. This has been OK'd by the Stormwater and Wastewater Officials here where I live. I have tried making berms out of 4" discharge hose but the water leaks pretty bad underneath to the other side of the berm when on concrete. Maybe it is the material that the discharge hose is made of. I purchased it from an industrial hose supplier. Maybe I need to go to a pool store. Most of my work will be on concrete so I need something that will block the water better. The 4" blue discharge hose I used was filled with sand almost completely so it could be bent or curved but when laying it out and moving the sand inside it to make it seal better it just did not work that good. Please let me know of something better I could make or purchase as this is the one thing holding me back right now. If anyone has made their own or know of something good please let me know where you purchased it or the materirals and what type of hose it was. Thank You for your help.

Chris I use the Vacuboom system and when it works right it works great but the lint/weed/garbage filters fill up and when that happens it won't pump the water out.

They make two models, or did when I got mine, if you plan on going that way buy the larger one.

I have tried pool hose with sand and like you find it does not stop all the water. Some say fill it with water but that would still not stop it all in my opinion.

Fire hose would be the same, neoprene would work if you can figure out how to keep it sealed.

what about making some sort of dam at the lowest point and pump from there, using plastic sheeting.

The thin rubber pool hose filled with sand a a good heavy walk from me, works well in many situations. It maybe because the hose is just stopping the water long enough for it to get sucked away, but I have not tested it with a sump pump.
