reclaiming at residential sites - Oct 10th, 04, 04:51 PM

What is the best way to reclaim or divert water when doing resi work. Alan suggested I get a sump pump and dam the sewers. If I do this , should I get a generator to power the sump pump? Also, what happens when the sump pump runs dry ( no water) ? I plan on diverting water to landscape or onto yard. Any suggestions please?

thanks

Eric,
You need a sump pump that is auto on and off, to prevent extended dry runs.

I take it your cleaning driveways.. Depending on how far away the driveway is from a sewer you may not have to worry about it. At least that's how it is in Maryland. As long as the waste water doesn't get into the sewer or waters of the U.S. you don't have to reclaim. So, if they sewer is at the opposite end of the block there is very little chance that water from cleaning a small driveway is going to reach it.

I very rarely do driveways so don't take me as an expert on this topic but that's how I've done them. I've also used a blower to blow the water into the grass too.
Kinda sounds wierd now that I think of it but it works..
