Huge Job estimate - Mar 23rd, 08, 10:49 PM

Look at this. I got a call last week to put in a price to Powerwash this historic building in NY. My wife wants me to put in a bid to clean it and I'm like "Sure Hon" how about you go clean it New York Architecture Images- ALEXANDER HAMILTON CUSTOM HOUSE

How much do you think this job would be worth?? This job is no doubt out of my league but in the back of my mind instead of doing charity work for free could this job be done by a few of us here where we all benefit financially from it. Another words pretty much split the profits 5 ways,10 ways etc.

John...this is not out of your league. Carefully orchestrate a process/procedure to do it.

One side at a time!! You can do it

Thats one hell of a restoration job. Did they supply specs on what to use and procedure? I've seen jobs like this that have been staged and do a side or two at a time. Wow I would like to do something like that. I have NO idea how to price it
'
You may need to consult with a restorations product company and they may give you a sq ft price for your area.

Would you have to use Union labor? I know the unions in Boston would be raising hell if a project like this went to a non union shop. You ( your company)can join the union probably for this one project and use union workers

This could be an awesome job worth so much $$$$$$ Man I am real tempted to say yes I would like to do it with you. I just dont know how I ever could get away for the amount of time it will take

Consult with Diedrich Technologies and or PROSOCO, Inc. and they will lead the way. You have the equipment and the desire so why not go for it?

Hold the Guns--- My wife spoke to them today and it seems they are unclear what they want to have done at this time. They are still deciding if the building should be cleaned this year or in a few years... Kind of like they'll call back when they decide.

Okay, here is how I figure it.

The building is about 70 feet high. That is an estimate, judging how tall people are, and the light poles, etc.
The exterior circumference is about 1042 feet.
The inner courtyard is about 507 feet
The building inside the courtyard is about 350
My guestimate is that it is also about 60 feet high, but I could be wrong.

If they do the roof, there is a lot of architectural copper on top with cupolas, etc. I doubt that they would want those taken to bare copper, but it is possible.

So, I am thinking that the total of the buildings is about 120,000 square feet. The chemicals on this thing are going to be expensive. Figure probably close to $.75 a foot. You are going to need a lift. If you are quick, you can get it done in a couple of weeks, but as we all know, something nearly always goes wrong. Figure it will take you two months solid of work with at least 4 guys.
Don't forget that you are going to have to recover on this project. It is close to the ocean, and there is not a lot between the building and the ocean.
Also, the inner courtyard is going to be hard because it does not appear that there is an entrance from outside the building. I know that the way these are constructed that often there is considering what the original use for it was.

So chemicals are $90k
Lifts are $10k
4 guys at 2 months $80k
Get my butt on a lift fee $50k
Recovery costs $50k
Total $280k
Plus Profit $ 56k
Total, with profit $336k

If I was there, I could give you a more accurate estimate, but I ain't coming for free.

Do I think that I could do it? In a heartbeat. It would drive my wife nuts though.

If you decide to do it John, let me know. I would jump on that one. That would be such great exposure for any company(s) and would be fantastic to put in your portfolio and website.I would love an opportunity like that.

I saw bird netting in one of those pics.
Is that an indication the rats with wings(pigeons) nest on the building?
