I have been doing homes and light commercial or 8 yrs. I want to move foreward and I know that everyone including Ron didnt know a thing about bidding large commercial when they started. The question I have is how many people and how many machines are you running to do 8 a night at 45 min a piece Ron? Sounds like crappy work to me. If you were doing the job right even woth a 4 man crew it would take at least 3 hrs even with hot water. I have studied the local store very close and am not blind (ok maybe one eye lol) but would take more than 45 min unless a 10 man crew with 10 washers. Unless in arizona there isnt much mold and just surface dust. Sorry just semms like Ron thinks he is the best washer of all time. Sorry Ron no disrepect.

If you can't do it right the first time. Don't do it at all. If you take longer than others so what. You will have a customer for life. Instead of speeding through and possibly missing something, and losing the client. Like so many others have done and still do. Also bid high and let them talk you down works every time.

Lets all just do our work with what benefits our own circumstances. No one is really right or wrong. Hows that for diplomacy!!

hey rangar

I may be wrong, but I don't think Ron is cleaning the stores to the same specifications that you mentioned at the start of this thread... I think it is 'just' flatwork: sidewalks, drivethru, dumpster pad...

I don't know Ron, but from what I gather I don't think he would settle for anything other than the highest standards in the work his company does... and I'm sure he wouldn't have the volume of the work he has if he delivered 'crappy work'.

I agree with Jeff, ultimately you need to bid according to your own business needs - however, both Ron & Jeff eluded to the fact that they have completely different operations in terms of business models and possibly the size of their operations.

Rangar, I'm pretty new to PWing - but do have experience in other fields of business... if you are bidding on commercial, have done all your research (ie. competition - rates/equipment/size/employees/experience, industry standards, client needs/expectations, etc, etc) and you find out that more than one of your competitors is able and willing to do stores in around 45 minutes on a 15 day at $125, would you not look at your own model/process and evaluate if you could do this?

and if not, why not?

try a search for Walgreens on here, you will get an idea of what work some contractors are doing and what they are getting paid...

in one of the threads Nick Campanele - Nick's pressure cleaning services in New Port Richey, FL - he does work all over US! said:
"We do about 150 Walgreens every 2 months and the 24hr stores are done montly. They will only pay under $150.00 and drive-thru's are about $50.00 extra.."

I don't mean to be *****y and I don't know Ron, but I don't think his aim is to come across as 'thinking he is the best washer of all time' - I think he is just putting across the benefit of his experience - take it or leave it.

anyways, I wish you all the best with the Walgreens bid and going after the commercial stuff... it's a competitive market down here!!!

First off, Yes i'm the best that ever washed. Second its a one man one machine crew.

Third, I will eat off the surface when my guys are done. Its clean and no gum. Bare naked concrete as my greaser buddy have said.

No offense taken, it would take more than that to rattle my cage.

Congratulations

you landed your contract in double quick time!

like jeff said, if that benefits your circumstances then more power to you.

I am curious as to what you guys think. I have an opportunity to bid on 150 to 175 stores. Would be full time work. I have 1 month to post bid on a per store basis. This would be Walgreens free standing stores. I dont know the square footage as of yet but all are about the same size. Almost all I have seen throughout the states are the same size. The job entails all walls of course. Drive thru. Small half spainish tile roofs. (Front and drive thru)
Sidewalks all curbs parking bumpers. Oil spots in parking spots. And rooftop vent cleaning. Plus window washing once per month. I figure it would take 10 to 12 hrs per store and 5 stores a week. And posibly one every 6 months. Thats with my helper who is fast. I am probably lowballing here but am thinking around 1500.00 to 1800.00 per store based on the one here in town. Thanks for any input.
150 stores at 5 a week is 30 weeks... you're gonna have to hustle if it's every quarter!

best of luck...

I saw one mistake on what Ron said.
I am the best.

Seriously, if you landed the account for $1650, you must ahve had them good and drunk at dinner. I cannot imagine that as well as purchasing agents know the industries they work with, and the research that they put into any contract that is put up for bid, that they would pay anywhere near that amount. Since I am certain that I can do a walgreens, with clean up, in no more than 3 or 4 hours, unless there are unusual circumstances, that $1640 is really high, even for me, and I have many jobs that gross close to $200 an hour, that I have been accused of low balling on.
