NOT a DIY but need a question answered - May 28th, 08, 12:48 PM

I run a build maintenance that works only in restaurants, I've been doing PW for about 4 years as part of my services, but this restaurant has asked me to wash and paint their building.

should I be concerned about the building lighting, they have several signs and the building it trimmed with LED strips.

I've asked this question about a week or so in the Buildings section but I haven't received any answers

PLEASE help me out here.

Electricity should be off when you wash, and avoid if you can, getting water into the fixture. That would be my suggestion.

LED strips?..they bulbs, maybe ya got pics? If it neon lights ya got to be real careful, Very expensive!..
I wouldn't be overly worried if just bulbs though.. yer gonna wash the building not the lights and yer not gonna high pressure it right?. Just throw up a house wash mix maybe with a little tsp if ya can keep clear of windows or metal around and then rinse with a few hundred psi. I mean ya gotta knock off loose stuff and give some profile to the old paint but you perhaps don't want to be sanding and spot priming the whole thing. Existing paint look intact?

Ken,

A building trimmed with LED lights? Sounds like a strip club. You sure this guy is legit?

Just kidding RS, but you may want to consult an electrician.

Avoid using any acidic cleaners. Getting them wet is probably of no circumstance since they are most likely outdoor rated and can take exposure to low pressure washing around them.
Unless there are any rust stains or other stains of the nature that require an acid for removal, Just use caution and avoid direct application of pressure to the lighting.

Some pics would greatly help.

Rod!~

What LED's?.. Them long white lights light up as little bulbs inside plastic tubing (have seen before) or they light up like neon? Seems neon from the pic. The main sign is for sure neon.. probably worth like $5k+. You got to stess that you would be really really careful but yet you disclaim it or make sure it covered in your insurance. Maybe sign company that does them has a romoval plan where they come take it down with lift for a few day..lol
