Paint strip - Sep 1st, 08, 09:15 AM

I got a request to strip this concrete floor. I did a test using HD-80 mixed @ 10oz. per gal. Dwell of about 15 mins. Didnt budge. I think its latex, not sure if its been sealed over.

I know there are strippers available that will work, just not sure what product to go with.

I'm actually thinking of offering a clean and paint over option as well. Not sure of the correct process to properly prep. Clean, acid, rinse, paint?

If you are going to attempt to strip it, then Beth is right but you must make the HD-80 @ a super strength like 14-16 oz per gal. Otherwise give a grafitti removal chemical like Taginator a shot with at least a 2 hour dwell time. This has worked for me in the past with a similiar project.

I haven't been able to dissolve HD-80 at those concentrations.

Dan's right. Over 10 per gallon it won't. You can boost it with something like 633 ADD by ACR products ACR PRODUCTS or you can buy a paint stripper.

I bet with HD-80 and the 633 Beth talks about, and a surface cleaner with 200 degree water - that stuff would come off like a charm!

That might just do it. But that 633 - you need to mix it really hot. Paint it a pain. I'll ask Rod to chime in later.

Thanks Beth.

I think I'm really going to push the strip on this job. I would hate to paint over this mess, only to get a call back because of blistering / cracking.

Just wanted to make sure it could be stripped w/ a chem.

Be sure you price your chems before you price the job. Some paint strippers are very expensive....
