Bid for Multiple Gas Stations - Sep 6th, 08, 12:07 AM

I was recently contacted by a manager for over 60 gas stations in the area. He is looking for power wash companies to service his locations and is requesting bids on them. I have seen many of these gas stations and they look to average 12,000 sf to 20,000 sf for each property. The bid is for washing the parking area, sidewalk, and concrete area where vehicles fill up. It sounded like the manager would like to select two or three contractors to service all locations. I was thinking of breaking my bid into a price for each and then a discount for every increment of stores that I am given.

Example:
1 Location - $260
20 Locations - $260 minus 10%
40 Locations - $260 minus 15%
60 Locations - $260 minus 18%

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My price seems low to me but don't know what response I will get if I raise it much. I don't know of any other washers in the area but the manager says that he has contacted 10 so far. Not sure what to think.

Thanks,

Lucas

I thought they looked low too but I started adding up the numbers. If the guy wants them done twice a year and I charged $260 per location I'd be looking $15,600 x 2 times = $31,200. I haven't bid too many of these jobs and do not want to lose anything on this. When estimating the job I looked at doing each location in approximately 2.5 hours including travel giving me approximately $104 per hour. Am I looking at this incorrecty?

Be sure you reclame your water at a gas station. The EPA will be all over you.

Are you working with one person alone or more? When I first started I bid on some gas stations...Honestly from my experience one person cannot or would not be able to do that in 2 hours. You have to add in the popping of gum too (this will take more time)...and I had a contract signed but they owe me over 2k still. Wasnt worth the court battle because they are a national chain so I just put a mechanics lien on the properties. Wait til they try to sell or move...and CANT...

Just speaking from my area and experience. It looks good but not everything that looks good is you know? Good luck with it though.

we do them for 300.00 no matter the size but they are done 4 times a year and in conjunction with a minimum of 2 canopy cleanings per location at 400.00 twice a year as well, 96 stations x 2000.00 each per year gross = $192,000 a year

I would say that it will take 1 person with gum removal about 4hrs.+

Don't be dazzled by potential income, it sounds like you forgot to add in the cost of business. Even on a shoestring budget of just a little bit of insurance, no recovery, all equipment paid for and so on, that is not much money for that large of an area. You say "they look to average 12,000 sf to 20,000 sf for each property" which says that you did not measure them. And even if you did the smallest of stations at $260.00 would be .02 and the larger would be .01.
You will not clean them in 2.5 hours so you need to go back and check your prices.
