Even though I can carry 740 gallons of watter at one time (2-370 gallon tanks) I only keep about 100 gallons of water in the front tank at all times. This gives me enough water to do a cleaning demo if I'm called for one and adds wait to the rear of the truck. Not to mention it's safer to have 100 gallons in the tank than 0 especially if you're driving the freeways around here and they are wet.

Alan is right though about what he said about some places here in So Cal not having water hook ups. You just have to remember which stops have hook ups and which ones don't around here. I use a rainbird adaptor though also so I can get water from the sprinkler system if I have to which normally have pretty good flow from.

Stores around here are notorious for not having any hook ups within common reach on the exterior of the building.

Alan, you can find hook ups in different places. Irrigation as one poster mentioned usally always is good. Any of the irrigation risers have water. (all of them have water and its usally close. at the Florida roundtable we discussed this and one man actually demostrated how easy it is.

Then you have hydrants, these are my last option and this was talked about on our tour in Myltle beach. Another pro discussed how this is all they use.

If you a professional and do this for a real living, you will learn in sort time these are the correct methods and what you have been doing by carting water in is costly and timely.

I have a question about hooking up to hydrants. Instead of getting a meter from a city isn't there any way you could get a meter from the state? That way you could just keep the same meter with you all the time if you're only working in one state.

I've had to rent meters before and I do have the fire hose attachments that I use only when I do have a meter. My biggest problem is that I turn up the water too high because I get in too big of a hurry to fill the tanks and have almost snapped my wrists a few times. Just keep in mind though I'm 6'0 and only 130 lbs so you can igmagine how easy it would be for me to break a wrist doing that.

Big water tanks are for guys with big egos. Look at the logistics of doing business having to bring water onsite or getting a hookup - I'd say you are better off passing everytime if you need to haul water. I love my 35 gallon buffer tank for my 6gpm machine. I know another guy that has a 100gallon on a 8gpm machine - and has never run into any issues. Hauling water don't pay. Especially for residential customers!

Big Tanks are for guys doing big business. You for one have no room to talk about anyone and what they use or how they use it. Plain Painter from your prior post you should sit back keep you mouth shut and learn a thing or too. Myself and a couple other contractors that sometimes make more in a day than you do in a month need big tanks because we clean sidewalks that are MILES yes Miles long. How many hook ups do you think there are along the way? How long will 3-8gpms run on your little 35 or 100 gal tank? There is a tool for every job and clearly your not the one for this Job!

Dan. I think you might be missing the boat here. We dont routinely haul water but have the capability to take 400+ gallons to any jobsite. Hauling water does pay! Both for residential and commercial . Point of interest.

I got a phonecall from a company on Thursday. There were from out of state. The told me that they had buildings at cellular towers that needed to be cleaned prior to them refurbishing the buildings (caulking, painting the trim and sealng the agregate. They asked me if I had the ability to bring water. I met with the guy on friday afternoon to look at one site (there are 12 they need done) but they are all pretty much the same. I looked at them, pretty sure they would take less than 45 minutes to clean.

I have them a price (Big money per building). They called me Friday evening and asked if I could do better on the price. I said no with the cost of hauling water. They said fine, could I do four sites tomorrow (yesterday). I faxed them an invoice, they faxed it back with credit card info. Punched it in to qbooks for authorization, got approval number. Yesterday I did four of the and had the biggest day in sales I have had since I was in business. Got up this morning, finished the credit card transaction. We did all four location with less than 400 gallons of water.

I haul water to residential projects when needed or at the request of the homeowner... We have a surcharge of between 80 and 160 dollars to haul water to the residential projects. To date this year, we have collected a little over 3800.00 in water supply charges

Dan, Unless you are independently wealthy, It may be benificial to think outside the box. These jobs I am doing could be done with a 4 gmp cold water machine and a water tank. To inference that it doesnt pay to haul water is a mindset for bankruptsy proceedings

A large water tank is a must for us. There are some jobs we do that require over 700 gallons of water with no water hookup in site. One account almost takes all of the 900+ gallons that we carry on my flatbed for that above reason.

I always fill onsite. I have a 500 gal tank ant a 125 gal for water. but only use them if i cant get to the water source. one job i do is about 300-500' from the nearest spiggot.so i stil use their water. but only once have i filled and hauled water. its a trip driving with water, i try to avoid it if possable.

We run a 15gpm and a 6gpm pump in our everyday softwash system. We need a lot water to keep up, who wants to wait on a 220gal water tank to fill up at every job. We ride with 50-100gal minimum to all jobs. Some systems need a lot of water to operate. Running one 6gpm pump, 35 gallons may be plenty for you, but some people have more water needs running multi line systems. Large tanks, like the others have stated, are also necessary for remote cleanings.

Ron there was talk about the hydrants Florida round table also but there was more talk about the other ways of getting water too.
