As a new business owner (not new to the business) I've set certain standards for my company and have always enjoyed reading about other owner's ideas here too. One of my principles was to never compromise quality, do only whole jobs (none of those spot cleanings), etc.
Well I has a call last week on the largest building I have ever had the opportunity to work on. The GM did not want a total cleaning, but merely a spot treatment. Begrudgingly I submitted a bid, since I really need the work. The area he wanted cleaned is the grey stucco band on the second floor and below to the ground on only one side of the building.
I compromised my standards, broke my "no spot cleaning rule" and got the bid. Before I was even halfway done the GM booked the following other jobs with me, beginning next week: 1) Wash 10,000 SQF of pavers and sidewalks on the street frontage MONTHLY, 2) wash the roof, 3) wash the whole building since the two floors I did look so good it makes the rest of the building look unclean now.
Sometimes it pays to compromise, or at least adjust our positions! Today, I'm very thankful I did.
