Question To Bill or Not to Bill

Every once in a while I come across a stain I just can't get out. My cust are all contract cust's, and I do a good deal of business with them. Generally my time on it is less then an hr, I just don't feel right billing for something that doesn't come out, now if I make more then one trip I'll invoice for at least an hr. (my rate has a 1 hr min.).

I do try my best to manage their expectations when they call me and describe the stain, like one in another post that I'm not very confident will come out, and even if I'm not successful, they always insist I bill them for my time.

Just curious what everone else does, the few times it happens won't break me, but wondering.

    Best regards,

    JD

If I am not sure of the outcome, I utilize my free demo for a small portion of the area. This tells me what the outcome is going to be, and shows them what to expect. If they want to continue, then I bill as normal.

I set customer expectations low, and try to deliver high. After throwing everything at it in my arsenal of limited knowlege, the customer is usually more than satisfied. Of course I know waiting out there for me is a stain I have not encountered that will render me appearing incompetant. In that scenario I suppose I would compromise and bill only for my expenses. In your scenario, JD I would do exactly as you do.

Do a test on the wood and make sure you can remove it.

When some see the word "STAIN" they automatically think wood. Since this is posted in Flatwork & Buildings, I am certain it means concrete with oil or leaf stains. If it were in the Wood forums, I wouild not have any comments.

    Smile Educate

I simply start by educating the customer that stains are not coming out. I have been doing this along time and there are no guarantees.

That’s why I always tell the customer that there a chance that its not coming up. Keep in mind this is a good reason to schedule maintenance. Accounts being washed regular will stain less.

    vinyl siding

Does anyone have any suggestions on what chemicals to use on vinyl siding?
Was wondering if Soap and bleach would be just as good anything else

Soap and bleach/pool chlorine is what will work best. Also adding a small amount of liquid wax will often give vinyl a nice shiny look.

What type of soap you use makes a big difference. I've tried quite a few, and found Citracleen to be the best by far. You can get it from Steve Rowlett. 1 (800) 357-6295.
