Internet Connection Speed

Hello People, I have DSL and have a question. I have bought things on the internet in the past few months and have not been able to download the files (1mb to several hundred mb in size). Not sure why the speed starts at about 200kb/sec. then slows down and finally stops each and every time.I have spent a lot of time with the AT&T DSL people and had the speed checks done and everything checks out. Nobody knows why the speed sloows down and stops. I have run the antivirus and spyware programs but still no answer.I am running Windows XP with a machine that is about 4 years old with plenty of memory.Any help is appreciated.Thank You.

go into your dos command window and execute a 'tracert' command - and print out the results and post it here. But trace to one of these places that aren't downloading very well from, e.g. dos>tracert www.fungamesdownload.com

Thanks Dan, I will give that a try.One of the guys mentioned on the other bbs to try the local wifi to see if it is my desktop or internet connection company. I will take a laptop to the local wifi place and see if I can download it from there, if I can then it is a cood possiblility that it is my internet provider AT&T DSL. If not then maybe something in my computer.I have done the DSL speed tests and they have come out good.These are not game files or "peer to peer" sharing stuff, just files I paid for and bonuses from ebook sellers and business and marketing sites. Not sure why it would slow down like they do but it does from every site I buy things from.When I call or email them, they all tell me that their customers don't have problems downloading the files but you never know.Thanks again.

I did a search for a while on the internet thing on a site called Yahoo or something like that. It came up with a lot of sites about problems so I read for a long while and found the problem.Not sure if it was a virus or something else that changed some settings that I never heard of but got things working somewhat better now.Hopefully they will stay good.

That's the nature of DSL. A lot of it depends on the quality of your inside phonline/jack/outside phoneline. Do you have the option of moving to another service such as cable?
