Email & Outlook - Dec 15th, 04, 09:01 PM

First of all let me say I know I should get a domain and set up my email that way, but being a small part time operation I am still using free email.

My question is alot of services dont allow you to use Microsoft Outlook to access your email accounts anymore. Is there a service that still does? or maybe a less expensive way to acomplish this. Thanks.

Mike, I see from your signature in the posting that you're using hotmail. If you're asking about free e-mail providers allowing you to retrieve your e-mail with an Outlook client, you're right, there aren't many left. Yahoo and perhaps Hotmail require paid subscriptions to access e-mail from an Outlook client. Google's Gmail service allows free access with an Outlook client. Is this what you're asking about?

You need a POP3 server provider. Hotmail is free and works very well with outlook...that's what I use and it's absolutely awesome. You can't tell the difference between it and regular email. The drawback though is you can't assign mail routing or message rules to hotmail accounts in outlook express. You *can* create additional folders on the hotmail server (online) to specify mail routing, though, and the folders will transcend to your outlook program, giving you the same effect. All of this is completely free. I must say that hotmail is getting very good at blocking junk mail from unsolicited sources. And, Hotmail just went to a 250 MB account capacity.

Currently, Yahoo is not free and charges an annual fee for POP3 service for your outlook program.
