What accounting software do you use? - Mar 9th, 05, 01:25 PM

I know lots of folks use Quickbooks, but there are several versions and also other thims out there... What do you use, and how do you like it? What are the features that are most helpful, and why?

Personally, I like the reporting features in Quickbooks Pro.

Beth

I use Quickbooks Pro.

Is super great once you get the hang of terminology, my way of thinking is not theirs, example to me someone I buy supplies from is a SUPPLIER, to them it is a VENDOR.

A few other quirky things but then I have always done things my way and think differently.

Do I blame some of it on my hearing and what I did and did not hear as I was growing up, hmmm

We use Quickbooks pro but we changed the program to fit our needs. We have added a auto gps so we don't have to map out our job sites, plus a few more things. Quickbooks basic should be more than you need so If I were you that would be my choice.

I use QB Basic and like it really well. HOWEVER, I am looking for something to replace it. Used to be, you buy an upgrade copy and got a free tax table download. Now you buy it, and they want another $199.00 for payroll stuff. Seems like a royal rip off to me.

Looks like lot of people here use QuickBooks for their accounting needs. Please also make sure that you make regular backups of these data. We have been using this service which will exclusively find and backup QuickBooks data in real time. Please see

We use QB Pro 2005. My wife does all of the bookwork for me, and has used QB in her regular job for about eternity.

I don't like the idea of using a website to back up my data. Seems like it would be awful easy for someone to gain all of my personal/business data. With all of the data theft that goes on over the web, it just makes me nervous.

I use a 256MB USB key to back up my data everytime something new is entered. With the key it only takes a second or two as you are closing out of the program. My brother used to use floppies for backup, and they took forever. When he got to the point of needing 3 or 4 disks he switched to CD. Once I showed him how quick a key was he went out that day and bought two, one for him, one for the accountant.

According to the press release this was launched Mar. 2nd. How long have you been using this service?????

I prefer to do my own backups to my hard drive and then burn to CD. I do my
own versioning that way as well.

Mike

Like most others, I've been using Quickbooks Pro since 2001. Its a very good small business system with alot of features, especially reporting options.

Intuit has a real cash cow product. Once they get you hooked into the upgrade path, its a yearly revenue stream out of your pocket into their corporate coffers.

Unless you need the payroll module or want some newly offered features, purchasing upgrades may not be necessary. I've been using the 2002 version and plan to keep using it for the foreseeable future.

Intuit stops the online upgrades for older Quickbooks versions after 3 or 4 years. In itself, this is not a problem. Quickbooks is a very old, stable application and if you use it more as a bookeeping tool instead of a major accounting system this is not a problem. Make sure you get the zip file which has all that version's upgrades from their web site. Intuit hides these files prettry well but a google search will help.

Its important to get this file as if you change computers, blow out your hard drive, or want to install Quickbooks on another computer on your network, its the only way to upgrade a new install.

I would also be cautious of Web based backups. While the service may be easy, convenient, and is off site storage, the same can be accomplished by burning CD backups and putting them in a firebox or storing them at the mother in law's!
