need help, read to learn what. - Apr 11th, 05, 10:47 PM

Ok I am not a computer geek and have tried enough times so gave up a week ago.

I have both desktops and the laptop networked or so I am pretty sure I do.

What I am trying to do and cannot do is import/export things.

Outlook PST files from the desktop to the laptop.

I have made a backup of all things I want including sub-folders but when I burn it to CD and put it in the laptop and import it none of my sub-folders are there.

I would rather do it directly from the router or wireless but cannot find things that way other then the SHARED FOLDER and that will not allow me to import.

MUSIC files in Music Match.

Cannot find them other then from the SHARED FOLDER and again it will not allow me to import to Music match in he Laptop.

If I can just learn to get those I think it will teach me enough to bring more things over.

I do know if it is in the SHARED FOLDER it cannot be saved or copied to the laptop.

And I cannot find the "C" drive on the desktop, just shared folder.

Ok guys n gals that know how to do this stuff teach me.

PS: One more thing, can I configure Outlook to send mail but not recieve any?

Jon I have been on Networks before and I think that you need to make your computer fully shared in other words if you cannot find the C drive of the other computer it is because it is not shared and you need to go into your network setup and make it shared then you should be able to do what you are trying to do.

Hi Jon,

Open Windows Explorer. Right click on the folder you wish to share and click the Sharing Tab. The second option should be Network Sharing and Security. Check the Share this folder on the network box, give it a name, and allow network users to change my files.

You can also do this for the entire C: drive as well. I would recommend you set it back to not share the entire drive once you have your files.

I use Outlook Express but Outlook should be similar.... I assume you are wanting to be able to send from both computers but check your mail on only 1 of them. Setup the email accounts on both computers. Then select Tools->Accounts and view the properties for each mail account you have setup. There should be a box that says something like this: "Include this account when receiving or synchronizing". You will want to uncheck this box for all accounts and click Apply. Do this only on the computer you do not want to receive email.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Jon it has been a while. The family is doing fine getting bigger and bigger. I am not out but I am not advertising at all and I actually have a guy doing the washing for me I have not touched a wand in over a yr now. I am now a full time hourly paid truck driver home every night hauling a flat bed with sod to all those new construction sites and meeting alot of builders. Why am I doing this you might ask well Jon you know me so you know insurance runs my life with my girls health problems. Work is a whole 4 miles from the house I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN family coverage for $17.00 a week I also have dental and vision 401K and Profit sharing. I was going to go full time Pressure Washing but I couldnt get health insurance so I got in the car business for a yr and thats when I met a clean up guy that worked with me and we made the deal he did all the work with my equipment for a 50/50 split. I know that seems high but all I do is provide the equipment and thats it. I hated the car business it just wasnt for me and I had a chance to get my CDL and do this so thats what Im doing now. I read that you retired I hope thats going well for ya. With all this rain I have alittle time so Im browsing the boards again and hopfully helping with a few questions. I still have to train my guy to do wood restoration so I am going to have to pick up the wand again for that. The hope is that this guy will buy me out within the yr but we will see I might change my mind. Stay in touch
