Okay the oldest has a MP3 player for christmas. Now I myself have never payed attention to the new toys unless they are for me. I put it on one of the office computers and now what. Where does she go to download the songs? Any good places on the web that won't cost me an arm, leg, and big toe? Also can you download songs from a CD legally if we bought the cd for her cd player , but now she wants it on the MP3 player. I'm just lost here, help Dad to not look like a retard. LOL

New MP3 player, and cell phone, what was santa thinking? I don't know which is worse. Building the toys for the youngest or figuring out the toys for the oldest.

Yes you can download your cd's into the mp3 player, and no its not ilegal because you purchased the right to play the music for your own personal uses weather you record it to a tape or upload it into an mp3 player. It is however ilegal to copy a cd and give it to a friend eventhough a lot of people do it anyways. You can download mp3's from many places on the web, Walmart has them on their online store for 88c a song (at least they used to).

You can buy the artists CD and turn it into a cache of mp3's for your own enjoyment legally. There are peer to peer programs out there (like Kazaa) to get the music for free but it is copyright infringement to do so. There are also services that you pay a nominal fee for each month to download material.
