Recover Word files - Nov 14th, 06, 01:09 PM

Does anyone know how to retrieve recovered files from Microsoft Word? Is there a file and extension for which I can search?

When you open up Word for the first time after you lose a file it should automatically pop up with something saying do you want to open the recovered file or delete it? This might help too.

Thanks Lana. Here is what happened. Computer shut down Word because of low resources. I had 7 software/design programs open at once plus my browser. The recovered page popped up and all my material was there then it shut down again. I figure it is in some temp file somewhere. I was thinking of calling in Geek Squad (just kidding Carlos)

Hey Ken!
If you didn't save the recovered files before shut down...they're gone. When Word pops up to tell you they're there, that's pretty much your last chance to save them before you close Word again.

Ken,
Set it for autosave. Trust me...it helps. I hate it when things like that happen. Very frustrating.

Ken -

A very similar thing happened to me while helping my son with his homework. If you have Google Desktop and can remember an obscure word that was in the document, this will work...Pull up Google Desktop and do a search on your computer for the obscure word that was in the document. Chances are, it will come up on the Google search and you will be able to see the text. Just copy the text and paste it into a new Word document and voila! Hope that works for you...
