Here is an interesting story. One of the local hacks , as you call them, was going around to restaurants offering a wipe down of the hood and a compliance "white" sticker for $25.00. Apparently the police and fire dept set this guy up and took him away in the cruiser. Yes a sting. My question is, $25.00? I eat more than that in a day. Why only $25.00?
That is huge that they did this. I am looking for info on this to do a follow up .I called the state fire marshall's office and they do not know of any incident like this occurring. What was the police and/or fire department that did this?

Why complain about this? You say you'll lose customers because you are "reporting" them? But the next guy will do the same thing thing....if he is doing his job. Remind them that you are only doing your job. And remind yourself of all the money to be made getting these people up to code. These standards are NEEDED, especially to counteract the myriads of lowballer competition and cheap business owners out there. I could only wish that this would happen where I live....although I disagree with the "help" needing licenses. I think they should be able to work without a license so long as a licensed cleaner is on site.
    Nothing new under the sun.

    Cool

Another interesting situation just came up. There are 2 systems I recently cleaned. They had been grandfathered for the past say......20 years. Now, the materials, welding or lack of, filters fan and duct are not up to code. So when I cleaned these places and non complianced them, the fire marshal said, well if you cleaned them then they are ok!. Nothing about junction box in the duct, leaky duct mesh filters and on and on. So, if there is a fire and the fire marshal denies that he okayed it, I could be screwed. When I went to the state with that questionable situation , they said to make sure I a non compliance sticker on the hood. As if it would not be burned off during a fire. I asked for the fire marshall to put his variance in writing. Well, thats not gonna happen. I think my only solution is to dump the customer. Just to cover my azz.

Just fax a copy of the Job service report, with the"Non compliance stamp" on the report, to the fire marshal the next day. He gets a copy and you get to put a confirmation fax in the file.

And what is going to prevent them from denying they ever got it? I can have a copy of anything I want. Who is to say I did fax it? My word against theirs. Guess who wins.

the confirmation letter that prints after you fax something is your proof that you fax it to them. It give date, time, and status of their fax getting it.

When you sign up a new customer do you ask for and get their insurance info and who services the policy? (agent) I suggest you do. When they go over service or this situation come up fax them the report and service report. Goes a long way to take the monkey off your back down the road.
