Potentially STUPID idea...LOL - Jun 30th, 07, 12:22 AM

OK...Here's the deal...here in the south, we have what's called japanese beetles...They come in swarms around this time of year and pretty much destroy all trees and bushes that aren't "treated". I have been paying for a landscaping service that is supposed to be "treating" my trees, however, the only treat is the treat the beetles are getting when they eat all of the trees and bushes that these folks "miss". So I've been watching this guy use a pressure washer to apply his chems to the trees he feels like treating and I got to thinking that maybe I could do this myself...Aside from the obvious hazards of killing my dog and/or inhaling really bad stuff, is it a viable idea to consider purchasing the chemicals needed and xjetting them myself? Does anyone have any idea what to buy for this sort of destruction and where to buy it from? I really need this done right, these beetles are a nightmare...Can anyone help? Thanks in advance for any input...

- John

I wouldn't mess with mixing the chem yourself. Unless you have a forest, just get the stuff that screws onto a garden hose.

interesting concept....not sure if it would be wise to be x-jetting chems/bug killer to that degree.

Out here in cali we are required to have a C27 license through the state license board to be applying chems that kill nasty rodents such as beetles and such.

John, all you need to kill japanese beetles is liquid seven. It can be bought in concentrate at lowes or home depot. You will need to spray every two or three weeks, but the concentrate goes a long ways. I would probably use a shurflo setup if you have or you can surely use x-jet.This stuff will not harm grass, its actually used to kill lawn insects as well.It is safe for pets too after dry.

Thanks for the responses...Jimmy, I think I might try xjetting the "7" so I can get some height with my long wand and fan tip...thanks for the input!

Just don't spray so much down there that the silly things fly north to my yard!

I'm about ready to set all the trees and bushes on fire and be done with 'em...these things drive me insane...they get all caught up in my daughter's hair, turn on any outside light after 8pm and they SWARM to it, the dog eats them...what a pain in the neck!

Carlos, licensing wouldn't apply when doing your own trees or yards right?

Curious, how do you use xjet & fan tip at the same time?

Consider your mix as it is usu. 80/20 mix with xjet, w/o the proportioners, and you don't want to make the bug killer ineffective. If it is already "safe" for everything else, then xjetting will probably not be cost effective due to weakness .

You will most likely be better off with the shur flo setup, or a deckster with a variable degree cone tip , tuned to a laser spray, or a "Bucketster" with a zero degree tip. With either one of those you can spray great heights at full strength.

I do like the idea of spraying it on rather than the shooting it on but I just can't get past the iffy situation of not knowing how exact you mix is gonna be with the xjet. I would hook up extension wand and lower pressure/volume spray with buckster so as not to go overboard. It gonna be leaking all over the place and face with 4 or 5gal. pressure washer whether shooting or spraying is my feeling..could also with the buckster if you don't turn it down or put in right tips. I hook standard extension wands and guns on my bucketster setup and use either 1/4 meg steel or plastic Chapin tips.
