1st go at an overlay - Oct 5th, 06, 11:55 PM

This is my first paying costumer. I got lucky with this guy that wanted three different styles at the same house.

No way that's your first go at it! Lookin' real good, Christian. I would say overlays and concrete stuff is the hot market in MB. Reagan's down there now, at The Beach Wagon by now I'm sure. I'd be down too but had work I just couldn't put off.

We need another jetty trip soon. When you going to get up Asheville way?

Thanks Neil,

You need to get down here with the gear. The fishin is going off. Going to the rocks on Sunday. The big pompano are in!!

I think the next time I'm heading that way is after the leaves fall, got a bunch of gutters to clean. I'd like to stop by and check out some of those insane decks you've been working on.

Thanks Celeste,

Kind of hard finding time with a wild Max running around. The boards are slowing down now, so I don't have to wake up at 5am anynore.

Quick question ~ Celeste chime in also ~ do you put a sealer down after the overlays are done?

If so, what type of sealer do you use?

Does this work require any cure time like concrete?

Carlos,

The concrete has a very minimal cure time compared to concrete....since it is a microcoating, it can flash in areas before you finish applying to the rest of the project. We've found it best practice to let it dry well for several hours or overnight before applying color. Once the coloring is complete, two coats of a thermoplastic sealer is rolled on. Sealer coats can be applied pretty quickly, especially when working with areas larger than 150 - 200 sq ft.

Thanks everyone,

As far as coloring, from wjhat I got out of the class, is that if you want 100% control of the coloring process you need to let all the concrete dry evenly. The reason explained was that the color will take differently in different moisture levels in the concrete. Being that natural stone can pretty much have anything going with the color, next time I am going to try and color the same day to see if I can eliminate a day of the process.
