Step by Step Overlay Job - Jan 11th, 07, 08:31 AM

Prepping the area is the first step to a successful overlay. CLEAN concrete is a MUST. Once clean, we tape the edges of the project to keep the product off of surfaces that it shouldn't be on It also gives a nice clean edge when the project is complete.

After the edges are taped, we use a fiber reinforced tape to create the basic pattern of the stones.

The fiber tape doesn't make as nice of a curve so when rounder edges are desired, a different tape is utilized. Note the red tape applied over the fiber tape.

Once satisfied with the taped pattern, we apply the texture coat (portland based cement mixed with stone strength resin & water with integral colors as well) with a trowel. Various textures are easily achieved with how you move the trowel, how heavy or light handed you are and how loose or heavy you mix your material. Temperatures will also affect the way your material behaves. (Found out recently that freezing is not good)

When the surface has dried sufficiently to move across the surface, the tape is pulled up and the stones appear.

This project was colored with dry powders and a damp sponge. The customer wanted just highlights of terra cotta on gray stones. This may be the most difficult application as the sealer changes the dry colors dramatically so you don't want to put too much on!

After all accent colors are applied we roll on two coats of thermoplastic sealer. The sealer brings all of the colors to life! TADA!

This process will be demonstrated at the 2/10 NC Round Table - Also, Pure Texture is offering a one day seminar on February 11 for RT attendees that will certify your company to install these overlays! This has proven to be an excellent add-on for our company

A project this size can take less than a day start to finish depending on weather and complexity of the pattern

This is a great add on! What was the charge to the customer for this job?
How much was the total expenses? Labor, supplys, etc the direct cost for the job.

Nice work!
