Non-marking hose -
Sep 22nd, 07, 06:14 PM
For years blue, red, yellow and other colored hoses have been advertised as Non-making when in fact they do mark.
The only true Non-marking hose on the market is Grey simply because the color grey does not contain 'carbon black' which is what differentiates the two. Another interesting fact about hose ratings is that most 5000 & 5800 PSI hoses (2 wire) are the same hose as the standard 4500 PSI hose. They have re-rated the hose by reducing the burst factor rating. For example a 4500 psi hose is rated at 4-1 which means it has an 18000 psi burst rating. Whereas a 5,800 pis hose could have a 3-1 burst factor or 3 x 5800 psi = 17,400 (1800 psi) burst factor. In all my years dealing with hose companies I have yet to see a manufacturer who manufactures a 2 wire hose with a higher burst rating than 18000 psi. That would be like saying that a 4500 psi hose may be (but highly unlikely) rated to 9000 psi with a 2-1 burst factor or the same 18000 burst that I talked about above. At any rate that is a excellent price on hose. OUR 4500 PSI (4-1 burst factor) GREY Non-Marking hose goes for just under $55.00 each for the 50' and just under 104.00 for the 100' Grey Non-Marking. At any rate - this is just a few 'tid-bits' of info that I thought you just might be intrested in. http://www.envirospec.com |

Kinda petty, huh John...
I have been sitting here for several minutes trying to figure out a tactful way to respond to your post. Firstly, the hose is rated as it is by the manufacturer. I really don't care how they got the numbers, as long as they'll do as they say. Secondly, I have had customers call me for blue hose, have offered them gray for a better price. They insist on blue, so blue is what they get. Thirdly, I have never come on here and undermined what you or Paul post out of professional courtesy...I guess the focal word being "professional". In addition, any time someone orders merchandise from me and has it shipped to them, they are charged ACTUAL shipping charges. There are no handling, packaging, or oops I didn't make enough on the sale charges added on. What UPS or FedEx charges, that is what the customer pays. Even the 2.5% processing charge for credit card transactions comes out of my profit. You want to have or make a sale, that's fine. Do it. But do it in your own thread. Sorry, folks. I didn't want to break the harmony of the board, but I felt a few things needed to be said. Carry on with your viewing... Pressure Washers & Chemicals 502-231-6506, 888-243-6506

Grey hoses that i've owned have been thrown to the curb sooner than anything else I've EVER owned. Not b/c they have marked anything (they have not) but b/c I've found them to be like cheap extension cords.....their memory retention is excellent and after a while a 50' foot hose becomes 42'. They have kinked and looped without release.
With the exception of 2 50' grey hoses, all we've EVER used were the blue non marking. Lack of memory retention (even when worn down to the bare metal braids) is almost non existent. But more importantly THEY DO NO MARK. When the material covering the braids powderizes and happens to leave a mark (which only occurs near end-life of hose) it is washed away by simply hosing, without ANY pressure. As a side note: if a blue hose marks a driveway or sidewalk then 9 times out of 10 it's b/c of pulsating water pressure or vibration of the hose. That's not a malfunction of the hose itself but other mechanical items!! ps Russ: while reading John's reply I was thinking to myself how ticked off I would be if I were in your shoes. Excellent response and I would never be sorry for posting what you have. You are correct Sir! Wash Away Pressure Cleaning, Inc. Let us handle the pressure T: 561.350.3363 info@washaway.us |

Don't worry Russ, all that read John's post saw it for what it was.
As for hoses, I had a (gray!) hose burst today, so I had an opportunity to try-out the 100' black hose I bought from you a few days ago...I like it, especially the swivels on each end. FWIW, I have found the smooth gray hose lasts MUCH longer. |

I get my hose from the Florida Hose Guys.. But I would probably consider getting it from Russ next time.. I got the grey 5400 r-2 in a 200 ft solid roll ..but had a little problem with one of the ends being messed up.. Anyhow I like Blue Hose better than grey... I have found if you go and clean a vent hood , areally nasty vent hood and then go out and clean some concrete .. all hose holds in some grease ... I am thinking about buying another hose reel.. one has my water hose on it , and one has 200 foot of pressure washer hose on it , and then maybe a new real with another 200 feet of non marking hose on it for cleaning concrete and building washing.. Just an Idea..
