Removing graffiti from a big rock - Apr 22nd, 07, 08:40 PM

I haven't run into graffiti much in all the time I've been in this business, but I have a question about removing graffiti,(paint, marker etc.) from a landmark called "Balanced Rock" in Trough Creek State Park here in Central Pa. It is very inaccessible with a pressure washer of any type. Was wondering what type of cleaner you guys who know graffiti would use. My first thought was sodium hydroxide ( mixed very hot) but not sure, as I've never cleaned graffiti from a rock before. I think it's sandstone. Not sure how to handle agitation and rinsing though. I would at least want to neutralize. Any suggestions on how to handle this would be much appreciated. I would like to do it for the community and not charge because I really like it there and it has a nice little trout stream I like to visit now and then.

Watch yourself with chems in a state park. I'd hate to see your good deed cost you. I would normally use a butyl based product but maybe in this situation you could find a citric based remover?

Thanks Ken, that's a good point, I know their maintenance people did it before with Taginator (not sure of spelling). Not sure of the results or work involved. Just looking for info as to the possibilities there are. Not even sure I'm gonna tackle it.
