Hello Mike,
We would try to remove the graffiti with just hot water. Being on a sign using chemicals might also remove the signage! Baking soda might work if the hot water didn't but, just like the chemicals it may attack the coating on the sign. Would have to test to find out what would work. Just water of course you wouldn't need to be concerned about containment of the water. True, but cleaning a sign that is on an overpass over the interstate might make water recovery difficult... Besides, most interstates, at least here, don't drain into storm sewers. The water would simply run off the highway into the dirt.

You'd also have to think about closing the lane under where you're working so you don't have chems falling onto passing cars...Imagine THAT liability claim...."Yes, I need to file a claim to have 147 cars repaints....Yes, I said 147...."

they aren't tags, it looks like someone is filling balloons with paint and throwing them at the signs. I have found out that a certain company has to be hired to block the highway for any type of work that is to be done. It costs a whole lot of money.

Here in CA I do not consider any of them taggers, they are GANGS and I say that with CAPS since that is what they are.
They also put their gang signs on the signs, they cut, climb over or do what they need to reach those signs and they are above the freeway here. Oneness only 147 cars? gad man we have more then that passing by in one minutes time frame. Try 1047 Officer and Yes I do have the proper contract with the Department of Highways, WHAT they failed to inform you so you could monitor the traffic, well sorry but that is Government for you Officer, lack of communications. Not my problem, go tell Governor Arnold, he will listen before terminating your silly behind. But truth be told not any company can just get a bid in when it comes to dealing with the freeways here, you have to have a lot of clout for one, the proper equipment to block the lane for about 3 miles prior to the work area and all those signs and lights. You can rent that stuff too but it is not cheap. Hey do the job when it rains and say that is RAIN WATER!! Ok Alan give it to me ![]() |

Sounds like a big job. When discussing the job with the road dept, ask for similar coated signs to take back to your shop and practice with different chemicals.
If in california ,all traffic personal need to be certified. not to mention the insurance you'll possibly need.I would hire a counsulting firm before even bidding that type job if you are not familar with this particular type of operation. The price for their experiance could be far les than a hard lesson learned by making it on your own. |
