Removing Paint w/ a WADU - Mar 3rd, 05, 09:33 PM

Had a job today and it was a disaster. I have a 3500psi, 5.5 gpm MITM washer and WADU soda blaster. Tried the Wadu for the first time and my results were not good. The wadu caused the unloader to pulse (?). It waould have pressure for 5 seconds or so and then no pressure for a couple of seconds. It did not scratch the coating on the piece of metal I was trying to clean.

Any thoughts on what would cause the "pulsing"

Thanks,
Jim Mathis

Would a small leak near the gun cause the surge?

Your nozzle in the wadu attachment is to small. I would be willing to bet it is a 5 and your machine calls for a 5.5 or a 6. I wouldn't be suprised if you have a flow unloader as well.

I think a WADU is a soda blasting attachment.

You hook it up same as a XJet, but rather than pulling chemical, you use a special mix of baking soda. Less damaging than than sand and easier to clean up.

Took it apart and the nozzle was labeled 2504, I'm guessing this is 25 deg, 040 orificace. Spent a sunny Carolina Saturday working on the rig. At my pump's 5.6 gpm,the 4.0 nozzle = about 7500 psi,I'm guessing this could have something to do with my problem

Do you have a steam valve on your machine? If so, you can bypass some water and get it to work.

Hopefully the paint removal project isn't too large, as removing paint with a Wadu is equivalent to cleaning a vinyl sided home with a toothbrush.

WADu and paint removal - Dec 6th, 05, 04:20 PM

I have a WADU and used it for various cleaning projects and paint removal. I would first look for any leak in the system that may result in sucking air that would cause the cycling of the unloader.
Next would be the incorrect nozzel size for the flow of your pwasher.

Depending on how large the paint removal job is and the thickness of the paint you could be there a while.... a long while. Also, don't forget that all that soda is left behind and it WILL kill all the greenery at high enough concentrations.

For certain jobs the WADU is a great tool, other jobs not the best

Hope this helps

Brent
