Paint Overspray on Plants - Jul 9th, 05, 11:33 AM

I painted a house this week for a PW customer (just for the heck of it) and got a little overspray from an airless sprayer on a bush. Any suggestions as to how I can remove it? Or help to remove it? She wasn't mad but I'm mad at myself - it was just so darn windy the drop clothes kept flying off... It's exterior latex and i can rub it off with my fingers but that would take 64 years, 3 weeks and 7 hours (figured it out).

Anything that would remove it would hurt the plant. Caustics strip, caustics can kill plants.

Plant friendly options are:
  • wait for the leaves to turn and fall off at the end of the season... (depending on the plant type)
  • prune it...
  • replace it - not necessary if you didn't kill it

Spraying with water seems to remove some of it but if i do it too much i'll kill the plant.

It's been almost a month and the darn paint is still on the plant like the day it happened. lol We even had a few rainstorms. The homeowner is not worried about it thank God. I'm surprised it's still there though. I'll keep checking just for fun to see how many years it takes...

just grab some green spray paint and sneek over at night. Then spray the bush and run. If the bush is green to begin with. LOL how about that? then go over the next day and say voila. Darn heat is getting to me gotta go in the pool now.

Beth is right about waiting for the leaves to turn. Stop by a nursery and tell them what you did...they will give you something to put around the plant (fertilizer) to help since paint does keep the leaves from doing their job as far as supplying the plant with nutrients

Prune it if you can. Our painter did that to some bushes that keep their leaves year round. 14 months and counting.

Dave O,
What heat??? Your in Michigan... I have had some of the best golf weather of my life in Michigan. 70 degrees with no humidity and a cool northern breaze without a cloud in the sky.... Try our 100 degree 100% humidity after a 1 hour afternoon rain cleaning artilery fungus on the top of a two story house with 12.5% Chlorine - Yuck...
