Black marker on concrete - Sep 8th, 05, 09:25 PM

Any tricks for removing black marker on concrete? I have used carb cleaner and Zep Erase to remove it from almost everything else, but the porosity of the concrete is a PITA. I know I need a solvent, but which one for concrete & marker is key here.

Alan,

I'll bet some Taginator would take care of it, it's not cheap but it really works.

Alan , try giving Sharpie a call. I know they have a Super-permanent marker that is made to stay on parts and stuff even after going through a parts washer that uses solvent.

I had to remove "Jessie" from a Chick-Fil-A sidewalk and it took repeated cleanings with sodium hydroxide and 200 degree water. It eventually disappeared after probably 3 cleanings. It was in direct sunlight, which might've sped things up a tad also.

Sansford says to try Goof Off. I know it is Xylene based, so it may just do the trick. Strong Sodium Hydroxide with extended dwell time did me no good in the past, so I did not bother this time.
Don, any particular brand of Sodium Hydroxide?

Goof Off rocks. Taks lots of things off. Just don't inhale it.

Techniseal Paint Remover is good for tire marks on concrete. You might try that, taginator, and goof off. Paint thinner has worked for me in a couple of situations. It's cheap and it is real close to the above mentioned products.

I'd try the Goof Off or MEK, Xylene first because you can get them at HD or Lowes. If not RPC RM 4X or RPC 911 real strang stuff.

that goofy stuff is great, I second and third it. I imagine anything caustic would work but will take time. Goofy will probably be quicker but cost alittle more.
