Removing Thick Paint? - Nov 6th, 05, 11:20 AM

I just went to do a driveway at a repeat customers house. He recently had his house painted with something new called RHINO paint. 25 guarantee!!!! Just the trim work, columns, and roof terrace cost him $18,000. The stuff looks good, but they did an awful job of controlling overspray and got a lot of overspray/drips on the concrete and brick. He wants me to remove all of the overspray from the brick and concrete.

I hit it will 200 degree water, mineral spirits, and plenty of pressure with minimal results. It would take 15 seconds to remove a little clump of the stuff. It is some sort of rubber based paint. WHAT CAN I USE TO HELP ME REMOVE THIS STUFF??? Money is no object, I am just looking for a product that can accomplish this in a timely manner.

Jeff, have you considered contacting the company that manufacturers the paint? I would think that they would have to have a remedy for a "less than neat" applicator.

Those ceramic paints are a scam. I don't know of anything that will dissolve it. Methlyene Chloride maybe but that stuff is nasty.

Jeff, there are special strippers (gentle pastes) that have been proven for decades to remove the kind of paint problem you have. The most famous among these is Peel Away, which comes in several slightly different formulations (depending on the needs of the job). We sell a product that we consider an "equal to" called DoradoStrip (also comes in different formulations) - considerably lower in cost. We have 1-gallon pails and 5-gallon pails, so you can try an experiment to see how the product works for you on this job.

Paint Remover - Nov 17th, 05, 04:03 PM

Jeff,

K&E Coating Remover. We've been selling and using it for years.

It is available in Gel for verticals and water viscosity for flatwork. The only paint stripper approved to use in and around restaurant kitchens.

why isnt this company that got the overspray everywhere cleaning it up? ...ESPECIALLY after spending $18K

We stain fences and decks, and if we get it on something we're out there the next day for as long as it takes to get the taken care. ie: customer service, intergrity as a business.....are we the only ones who are doing that these days?

He said they were working for two days doing the painting. Then he had them out there for a week doing repairs, touch ups, etc. He was basically fed up with them.
