Graffiti on vehicles - Nov 16th, 06, 04:09 PM

Thought you might like to see a job I did this summer. My next door neighbour is a construction foreman and had fired a guy a couple of days before, he was kinda pi**ed off. Here's what he did.

I can't even tell you the mood he was in when he saw this. He's 6ft 5in, 260lbs and has the temper of a nuclear bomb

Awesome! Did that involve repainting or was it non-invasive? Did it involve redoing any of the clearcoat? I'd love to catch someone in the process of doing that. It's amazing how immature some people can be as to damage someone else's property without reason. The dumba$$ should have put his time and energy into finding another job instead of doing that!

We used Goof-Off graffiti remover. Three men, one would spray the remover, than he and another guy would start rubbing with soft rags for 15 to 20 just to soften the paint up, and then rinse off with pressure washer. Only did about 2 sq ft at a time. Took us 3 hours to do both vehicles. The neighbour was quite happy with the results. His company paid for the cleaning plus it gave me a couple of brews that night while I was mowing my lawn....lol

Dan

PS: No painting or clearcoating was involved. He just had to replace a couple of plastic pieces that the remover burnt, his company paid for that too. My bill was $400 and the plastic was $450. Heck of a lot cheaper than a paint job.

I get calls for that work a couple of times a year, it is good work. Be careful of decals though you will strip the color our of them.

So the Goof-Off doesn't affect the clear coat finish or paint? I just thought that if it is intended to dissolve paint or similar products, it would also affect the car's paint job. Can you notice any swirling or dulling when in direct sunlight? I'm just asking because if I ever decide to get into politics I'll probably be repairing my own vehicle quite often

I have used Shadow max on that sort of thing and it worked great. Didn't have to agitate it either! It looks like you did some good work Dan.

No swirling or dulling, but you have to be fast to remove it. Just dissolve the graffiti and rinse right away.

All Goof off is, its a mild paint stripper . But it is risky, I have worked with this stuff for a while so I know its limits and capabilities. Its just a matter of experimenting before doing the real thing.

Scott,
"Didn't have to agitate it either! "

I wouldn't have to agitate it if I left it a little longer but we agitate so it will work on the graffiti which is fresh, faster. This way it has less chance of softening up the vehicle's paint.

Danster that is phenominal work!
I can't belive the pictures...infact I went through them about four times.

ps: ex-worker would need a wheelchair once I was done with him. And I would enjoy every minute of stooping to his level.
Hey...I wonder how easy it is to get spray paint off human skin.

Thanks for the compliment. Spray paint is very easy to remove from skin, just use Skin-So-Soft by Avon, the oil bath. It can take off urethane, epoxy, alkyds and other solvent based coatings. Has a hard time with latex and acrylics waterborne and also elastomerics but it will take it off with a lot of rubbing.

I added a couple more pics of this particular job. The vehicles were really a mess as you can see.

What works really well on vehicles is to get some limonene based (citrus oil) cleaner, and put it on a clean rag. the limonene will dissolve the aerosol paint without messing up the car, truck, boat, trailer finish. However, for best results, do it within 3 days of the tag application. you may have to coat it and wait a bit, or rub. works good on any petroleum product, latex paint spill or spotting, road tar, driveway oils and grease, even on skin after a hefty day of painting or spraying.

Keep it out of your eyes, and away from your mouth.

Home depot sells Nature's Orange. or Orange All. Or rustoleum pure limonene (paint stores).

another product that does well for cleaning up the outside of vehicles, as well as marks on mailboxes, lightpoles, electrical and meter boxes, is Dumond's Lift Away. comes in a spray can ($14) or in bulk (1 Gal $35). soak a rag and some rubbing involved. doesn't harm factory finish. I prefer bulk product, rather than spray, over respiratory issues with spray; no toxic chemicals in formula. doesn't seem to mess up hands. disolves pvc and latex gloves, use nitrile gloves instead
