Permanent marker - Dec 31st, 06, 10:42 AM

Recentley had a trucker decide to tag about 20 trailers with some sort of permanent black marker. Have tried several removers but to no avail. They either would leave heavy ghosts or the paint would come off before the marker. These trailers are your standard white paint. Saw some comments on here about taginator but would that product eat the paint as well? Would love some tips, I think I could make some decent money quick w/ the right product.

Tagaway is what you want if I remember right. this is what we had to use on new construction equipment at a dealer once. Taginator is for brick and other but tagaway is for smooth surfaces including vehicles and other.

I am tired so check uses before you order

There is Goo-Gone that you can get at the hardware store that should work and you can also use urethane or epoxy thinners, both should remove it fairly easy.

Dont laugh.... try a magic eraser. I operate a restaurant and use magic erasers to clean virtually everything. To prove them to my associates I take a Sharpie and draw allover our registers. Wipe once or twice and it is GONE. Everytime. Let me know how it works.

Carburetor cleaner. Unless the paint is really heavily oxidized it should work fine. We buy it by the case.

(Not sure which Scott you are referring to) Honestly I have not tried Tagawy. When it comes to actual grafitti I highly doubt it. The time vs cost would not wash based on what I have read from your past posts on tagaway. But for permanent market, just wipe it off. At least thats what I do for my example on plastic. I am curious to see how it works on a trailer.

Carb cleaner actually works really good (watch the decals), and that magic eraser is awesome.

A good graffiti remover that I use is a de-limonene blend, also watch the decals it will strip the color.

I have used only Tagaway and Taganator for graffiti removal and both are great. Since they are so great, I have not tried anything else.

Well, I have tried goo-gone, goof off, and another remover. They either didn't work or would take the trailer paint off before the marker. Am going to try the carb cleaner and some brake cleaner this weekend for an all around experiment. What is a magic eraser? Is that the pink rubber eraser I used as a kid at school? Just wanted to try a few more things before buying anything expensive.

Magic Eraser is made by Mr Clean. I have heard this thing is a wonder among modern marvels. Does anybody know what the thing is made from?

I would try a product called Smooth Max made by Graffiti Solutions INC in St. Paul Minnesota.

I recommend brushing on, dwelling for 5 - 15 mins and agitation with a White 3m scrubbie. Hot wash it off or you can probably just wipe it off as well but don't let your client see that. :=) I have used it when other chems were too agressive against the underlying paint.

I have used this on painted aluminum siding (baked enamel type) and my '93 Aerostar with no trouble.

Don't forget to test it first, and please post pics.

Sorry took so long, had some family matters to attend to. I don't know what kind of marker it was but nothing works! I'm not posting pics cause it would be a waste of time. Here's what I used:

Klean strip graff remover: removed the paint along w/ marker
goof off: heavy ghosts
goo-gone: worked best but still left heavy ghosts
brake cleaner: hardly touched it
carb cleaner: hardly touched it
Scotch brite erasing pad (made by P & G who makes mr clean magic eraser): did'nt even touch it, might work ok on countertops!

Why don't you try Tagaway. If you call ETS they can tell you who your local supplier is. http://www.tagaway.com/
PS. I used to live on the Westside near NAS JAX
