A workable Map on TGS - Jan 7th, 08, 03:34 AM

I've been to some sights where they have a picture of the USA and if you click on a state it shows you all the companies in that state.

Would it and should it be possible/allowed here on TGS so any TGS member can click on that map in see who Powerwashers in there own state?? It seems like it could be a good idea for an org that is looking to start roundtables to be able to access a workable map like this to see who is in there area that they could target. Of course the drawback would be that anyone who is a member here could click on the map to host a Rountable in there state that has no affiliation to an org. which there is nothing wrong with that because it is all about networking and Education anyway.

I've already been green lighted to have a Roundtable at my NY distributors shop but I am waiting to see if I want to do it for one and also if I want to do it with a specific orgs blessing.

Any other thoughts??

Johnny, we all need to get together on these round tables.

All the orgs. that are having them should collectively get together and promote them all for the unity of the industry.

What do ya think?

maybe a site just for round tables? How about that idea...

Ron, In a perfect world that is a great idea. In reality it seems that most orgs just want to do there own thing at there own time through there own org.

Another idea I have is for two, three or even 4 new orgs have a joint Convention so they can have the affiliations and the support each need to move on up in this industry.

The PWNA in Dallas had a nice joint Convention with the IWCA. We also had two nice stand alone Conventions after that before the bottom fell out.

Roundtables are great and pretty cost effective to do. A Convention on the other hand is like taking a business trip with the whole thing a "Write off" Yes Conventions are not cheap but they are a dream if they can be done the right way.

If the PWNA where to start doing Conventions again I would consider on going but it would have to be a strong showing by the PWNA for me to be worthwhile. What that means is if they only did a Convention to ride off another Org's coat tails and there wasnt a strong PWNA involvment as in Booths etc. then for me it most likely would not be worth it...unless of course the other org. had me interested.

John, the Contractor Events site will be up this week with exactly the type map you're looking for. Rather than showing companies though, it will show events of all levels. Events can be submitted to contractorevents@contractorevents.com. Along with the interactive map, there is also a calendar that displays dates and details.

The PWNC also has a US map (currently not viewable) on the site that will display states where networks are in place.

This is currently what we have in place as far as a TGS member map.

The Grime Scene (91 markers placed)

It is basic but still has some information. We'll check and see if there is anything more comprehensive. Beth has mentioned the LinkedIn: Relationships Matter site which provides a channel for anyone to use and expand their networking contacts.

Rod!~

Beth, I think a usamap of states, clickon yours, then pins on the state map for PW in their service areas would be a good idea for TGS. A simple module should be available out there...

Rod... Oops! Just saw the map!
Hmmm. ...never saw that before...

Wasn't that line from waterworld?

I'm with Ron on that..Excellent idea!! Great way for contractors in those states to seek out where the action is

In a conversation I had with my local distributor this past week where I had my past roundtable he still stands his ground that so many educational classes that are held in this field are a total waste of money. He is a big believer of on the job training like the way I started years ago. I will never knock OJT because its a great way to learn no doubt. But as for the educational classes, The organizations, etc. there is this thing called Marketing. Everything is so much out in the open now that every little advantage helps ones business. To Market that you belong to an org or you are trained from a certain school that others can search out on the net and on and on is so valuable in todays business world.

At the very least of all this is that old and over used statement "You have to spend money to make it" and if years ago when I started and they had something like the PWNC here I would of most definitely have had that in my calendar book--Yup I still use every year the big fat old and out of fashion..The Calendar book.

So why did you decide to build a new one? Why didn't you just buy the Grass Roots Events site? That's what that was. Just curious.

Ah! One other thing - ok two...

You should post in another thread to announce your new site, and you should maybe set up an account like you did with PWNC for posting with.

Working on that today Contractor Events will also be doing banner exchanges with bbs & other sites that promote education - you interested?
