Gravel Train Help - Aug 1st, 07, 06:30 PM

We do a lot of over the road trucks and am looking to talk to somebody that specializes in gravel trains or that can offer some advice. We have done some but I know that there are many of things that we can do to do them better. Any advice or direction to the right person to talk to would be much appreciated. Thanks Guys!

Are you actually talking about a train or a tractor with multible trailers? If so I can help you with that. We have done those before. The only trains we have washed were Amtrac engines for Amtrac when thier automatic washer went down because of a freeze here. They are expected to wash the engines from alll the snow and salt before returning to the rails for thier next run. Let me know if I can help.

A tractor that pulls two trailers that haul gravel. Sorry for the confusion.

Tractors are tractors. Wash then as you would any tractor, but the trailers are a little different. First are they aluminum and if so are they factory finish shinney aluminum. If so you DON'T want to use any aluminum brightner on them. Just soap and water. Watch your soaps! If it has caustics in it, it can also burn the aluminum and make it come out brown looking. If the trailers have already been acid washed and you are taking over the washing from someone else than you will have to continue acid washing them to make the trailers look good. You can down stream them but I find that takes a little longer than if you have a second person apply the chemical with a chemical spray system and you follow with preasure and soap. A rinse and your done. When they are hooked up doubles I generally wash straight down one side, catching the fronts and backs and then do the other side. ALSO...watch the tractors! If they have polished tanks they will have to be covered or unhooked from the trailers or the acid from the trailer washing will mess up the shiney tanks. You will then find yourself polishing tanks and thats no fun job! I used to own a custom tractor and I paid someone to polish mine. Thats to much work.
