Flashing - Oct 13th, 07, 12:03 PM

While reading some old posts about 2stepping I ran across the term 'flashing'. I seems to indicate hitting whatever w/ a stronger mix of acid. I'm using a downstreamer right now. What methods do people use to flash....i.e. sureflow pump from xtra strong chem tank or what? Methodology please.

I think it means a quick hit of acid and rapid rinse, we use two guys for this. One man with a pump sprayer the other rinses. This works well on polished tanks, wheels, ect. with out fading

Washum is close: It means a quick hit of acid followed immediately by a neutralizing alkaline soap, then a good rinse. If you don't put the alkaline on right afterwards the acid will continue to etch the surface even if you rinse good. IT is especially noticeable when it is hot outside and the sun is shining on the surface. DO not do this on polished wheels on a truck that has just returned from its route. The rims will be hot and as soon as you put the acid on it reacts immediately and burns before you can get your alkaline on the surface.

What ratio do you guys mix your hydrfluoric acid for 2 stepping. I cuurrently mix about 20-1 for downstreaming. Also does anyone heat their water when 2 stepping. I was going to try this today since the temps are a bit cooler and I thought warm water might clean better.

I'm pretty much at 1:4 & then downstream. For the mix I have it works, doesn't etch the glass, can hardly smell it, & doesn't sting the eyes. I could probably revvvvvv it up but it works OK.
