Removing Black Exhaust.... - Nov 9th, 07, 12:26 PM

What's the best way, product/method to cleaning the black carbon exhaust buildup off the side of a rig?

I was thinking the Pot-Hyd cleaner we use would of worked, but it just didn't get as clean as I would've liked.

Thanks!!

Two step works well, We some times do what we call a reverse two step, caustic first then acid this also takes care of browning on the rails

I agree with washum. We two step and it works extremely well. If it's really bad I have double two stepped, but only on very rare occasions. It seems like it's next to impossible to get the companies to change the direction of the exhaust. They don't like it sooting up their trailers but don't like it when a solution is suggested either, it seems.

We have a product called Oil Buster (OCB Emulsifier) that you can add to either the acid or Alkaline base soap that does an excellent job in boosting the oil cutting properties of your chemical.

When I am Two stepping I mix it with the Acid to really cut the road film and oils (stack smoke).

I will mix it with my regular soap sometimes as well if I start to see the Road film building up on the units I wash or if I run across a bunch with soot on them.

Anybody have any opinions on panel bright for removing the black carbon build up? Seems to work well for us.

Sorry, I couldn't help you out on that one. I've never used it. Is it one of those "brown" type of soaps that many seem to use? You seem to like it though, huh? Do you just spray on your normal mixture rate and it works, or do you put on a stronger mixture with a sprayer first to knock it off?

I have heard good things about panel bright but I have not tried it.

I heard to never let it dry on glass or paint but it will clean great.

it is one of the brown soaps, we spray or brush it on just go from the bottom to the top as to not leave streaks and just brush the black marks and they come right off. We did it last week and it was 30 degreess out. I'm sure there are dozens of other ways to do it but that is how we do it. good Luck!

Panel Bright kicks butt! I have a customer using it on garbage trucks and they come clean with little to no brushing.

Jarrod had a thread that he was talking about a new brushless truck wash, ask him or search the thread out. I said it was amazing!

Thanks.

Wow, that stuff isn't free! What is the dilution ratio when it is concentrated enough to clean without brushing like you mentioned on the garbage trucks? Is it a powder that you just dump in water and go?

Anything "free" is worth exactly what you paid for it...

Panel Bright is a 3 part kit to make 1 drum of concentrate, but can be cut 50/50 before use. Used with hot water, for normal maintenance cleaning, a 1:35 dilution of the 50/50 works really well. For tougher jobs, a 1:20 dilution cuts through the worst stuff, so it's actually quite economical to use.
