Gas Surcharge? - May 21st, 08, 09:35 AM

I wanted to see if anyone had a example of how they set up there surcharge. I am going to add one to all our fleet accounts and wanted to if anyone else has set this up. Not sure where to start. We are spending 2000.00 a month right now and its not getting any better.

Thanks for any help!

At this point you could do anything you want. You could set up a flat rate per stop, a percentage off of the sale, or a combination/either-or of both. What do you feel would work the best for your situation?

I would just try to call it what it really is (A PRICE INCREASE). Beleave me the companies you work for either have or are planning on raising their prices for services. EVERYTHING is going up! But really talk to your companies and call it whatever makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Contact any scheduled clients immediately, sooner the better.
Advise them that your prices have increased due to the factors 'we're all aware of,' effective now.
That increase in gas is going to affect your chems, too.
And anything else brought to you by truck, plane, or train.
Clients don't need to be bothered with a breakdown.
They want to know the bottom line so they can make a decision.

You need the increase NOW so their job doesn't cost YOU.

Good luck

If you have mapping software like MS streets and trips, it has a function that allows you to calculate your gas usage based upon current prices (you can change this as the prices change). While it is not going to completely account for traffic delays, it gives you an amount to utilize in any calculations necessary to adjust your prices accordingly.

If its not contract work i would juts raise your prices. No one like extra anything.

If its contract work, make sure you have that clause in your agreement. companys are allowing individuals to charge the fuel today extra and taking it back on the end of the agreement.

we have had a fuel surcharge added on for over a year now and we just set a price to help but its not helping much right now so we are in the process of increasing our prices to help that way you are not expected to drop the price IF fuel prices go down.
