Max. Gpm Using 3/8" Pressure Washing Hose??? - Aug 22nd, 06, 06:26 PM

I Was Wondering What The Maximum Gpm Was Using 3/8" Pressure Washing Hose???

I Am Currently Using An 8gpm Machine. Not Sure How Many More Gpm Can Go Through The Hose???

QUESTION: CAN 16 GPM @4000 PSI RUN THROUGH THE 3/8" HOSE????

It is not so much of how many can go thru, but what the psi loss will be on longer runs.

You can push 8gpm and more through a small hole at the end of your pressure washer gun so 3/8 inch hose shouldnt cause restrictions to your gpm but yes psi will change but only fractionaly.

psi drop on 100 feet of 3/8" hose with 8 gpm is 300 vs only 80 with 1/2" hose.

When I use my 11gpm 3500psi PW I blow the hoses up from the burner to the hose real alot when I'm using 3/8" hose. The fittings on these skinnier hoses don't last on a 10+gpm PW. I use 1/2" hoses between the Burners and the hose reals. As for the hoses on the hosereal themselves the 3/8 hoses work fine.

CAN 16 GPM @4000 PSI RUN THROUGH THE 3/8" HOSE????

Flow rate = pressure and orifice size. At a 1000 psi a 3/16" orifice will give you a 30 GPM flow rate. In otherwords, your hose ID of 3/8" is not the limiting factor. As long as all your components are rated for 4000+ psi, a #15 nozzle (3/32" orifice) will allow a 15 GPM flow rate at 4000 psi (pressure drop is about 100psi per 100ft length on a 3/8" hose). A 3/16" orifice will give you 60 GPM at 4000psi if your pump can supply that much.
