Postal Service Contracts - Sep 21st, 06, 10:13 AM

What did these end up going for in different parts of the country? I got a packet yesterday and there are a ton of them in different parts of Metro Atlanta. I do not have a lot of experience in fleets but have all the necessary reclaim equipment and can deal with the waste water.

I am interested in putting in a bid and seeing what happens. I really would appreciate some information. Please Private Message me if you do not want to post on here.

What a waste of time and you have to recollect. How can you make a living?

I just recieved my package today. From all the info in the package, you think that the postal service is paying a premium to clean these units. I.e, wash, reclaim, dispose water offsite, no ground mediation, clean windows, inside and out, streak free., clean all the interior and dust dashboards and I also says that you have to " Polish" all units once a year. All this for bout $6.25 a unit. Oh yeah, almost forgot. They also say that you have to rinse down the area where you cleaned the units and reclaim that water too.

I DON'T THINK SO.........

In defense of the unknown compnay. They may know something we dont, they may have all the washing and cleaning down to an art and know how to turn a profit.
But like all you guys we wouldnt touch them for that price with somebody else's 10 foot pole.

I do alot of fleet work that includes interior also. There is no art to it. It is what it is. I have no idea how many there are but you would need a considerable amount of people working for you in order to complete the job quickly and efficiently.

e.g. I have a crew of three that wash 18 van ambulances inside and out including sweeping and mopping the rear floor, vacuuming, glass, dashboard dusting, silicone tires, and drying only the exterior windows. It takes about 3 hours and there is NO reclamation. My price is QUITE higher than that. $6.25 ??? NEVER !!!!!!

I should sub out all of our work to these guys and then I can sit at home making money. Oh wait thats right I want it done right. 6.25 in and out and polished etc. there is no way I would even consider it.

There are ways to make money at that price, you just won't make a killing. Of course, these kind of jobs are my stock in trade, and I am satisfied with the profit to be made there. The way I figure it, with four people I could do 30 to 40 an hour with a bit of work, with bad help an easy 25. People always fear what they do not know.

No offense Scott. But how in the world would that be possible ????? with only a crew of 4 ???? I really would beg to differ. That number is unrealistic. If this is really true, than atleast share the basics on how you would perform this ?

We have routinely done 40 police cars an hour with three. The problem is tha tyou do have to hustle to get it done.
Here is how we do it.
One man runs the pressure washer on rinse only mode, he does not apply soap.
One man has a bucket and a wash mitt. He applies the soap and scrubs down the vehicle. We do not use regular truck wash soap for these type of vehicles. We use just regular gallon car wash soap from Autozone. You can take your pick of these, but it does not take much to get soap in the bucket, and we can do a lot of cars with a gallon of soap, in this way.
One person (sometimes we use women for this type of work) does the windows with a squeegee. He or she will have a microfiber towel to hit the corners, and needs to stay close to the wash crew, within a couple of cars so that the windows are still wet.
The fourth person is stuck with the interiors, and takes care of them, wipes the windows, and cleans the floors.
When the rest of the crew is finished with their part of the job, they come back and help the interior person, and write down numbers.
It might not work for you, but it works for us and has for quite a while.

sounds like a great system Scott. We use to have some guys that did our Company trucks (at my old job) and they were so ineffecient. They didn't have any kind of system and they took about 3-4 hours to do 5 trucks...Don't know if they're still in business
