Dealt with it about 12 years ago when I used to do lots and it is a pain without getting into the dealers special chemicals the best produt I found was a degreaser, but it still took some effort to remove all of it.

When I was selling woodworking equipment,(band saws, table saws, lathes)
cosomoline was applied to the cast iron finished tops by the manufacturer overseas. Then they would apply a wax paper to the top of it to help keep moisture away. It worked very well to keep tops from rusting.
The best thing I found was to use mineral spirits and elbow grease to remove it, make sure you have plenty of rags or paper towels. The stuff is nasty and will get all over everything.

This may be a little late, but forgive me and go easy. Its my first day.

Try Simple Green? Its good stuff, smells good and doesn't etch most metals. It will remove all oils, so a light coat of oil would be needed.

Not sure what you are cleaning though.
