First Gray Away Deck - Mar 23rd, 07, 11:50 PM

Here's my first Baker's Gray Away Deck. I really enjoyed applying this stain, it's got some body to it. It was very easy to apply, and has a lot of pigment in it. I don't have the before pics(on another camera). Basic un-sealed PT deck around 3 years old, never been cleaned. Deck was cleaned with F-18, DSed, final solution was 2oz.'s to a gallon. X-jetted F-8, final on it was around 6oz.'s to a gallon. You use more cleaner and brightener like that, but man it sure is a whole lot faster. Thanks for the help Shane. Stained with BGA Gold Blend.

How many gallons of grey awy? Some times the amount of pigment short changes the amount of oil needed to restore a deck. (solid content) Sometimes the amount of pigment filters at the top blinding the applicator of whats really happening to the wood. So the under standing of solid content is very important to what your giving the customer.

Thumbs up Oooh, Pretty! - Mar 24th, 07, 12:57 AM

I like the BGA colors, that's for sure! Nice-looking job, Jason.

I'm curious about the smell. Ready Seal is a potent oil, and my own deck still smells a bit like a rail siding in the heat. How's the BGA on the old shnozzola?

Customers have mentioned it, but only in passing.

No prob Jason i'm glad it worked out and your customer was happy which is the most important thing.New happy customers = life customer.

You leave some touch up? Quart cans are good to leave for touch up and it's very easy DIY'er.

Sir James of KnowledgeWood,

I thought the definition of solids in paints and stains was anything left over after the VOC's blew off after application, ruined the ozone layer, gave Al Gore something to do, and hopefully asphyxiated his nasty wife Tipper who tried to ruin Frank Zappa's career and probably killed him prematurely.

Ken I was making a point that people can learn from. It has nothing to do with what product is being use or what I use. I alway's carry clear. Understanding why and how things work are alway's more important to me than the product.

Thanks for the compliments. The Gray Away doesn't really have much of a smell, I sure like that. I really like this stain. I used 9 1/2 gallons of it by spraying, it would have been less had it not been for the wind. I soaked the crap out of the wood it was my first time using it so I wanted to make sure I got the wood full. Horizontals were backpadded with lambswool pad.
