Deck Job - Jul 3rd, 08, 09:03 PM

I have only done a handful of decks but this week I did two. Here is the one I finished today. Stripped with F-18 used ox to neutralize and hand brushed on Ready Seal medium brown. Two coats on all the horizontals and two coats on some of the verticals where it looked like it was needed. If I start doing more of these a sprayer is in my future. I was surprised to hear that a lot of the wood guys use airless sprayers. I would have thought an HVLP would have been the choice. Definitely need to do some homework before buying one.

Doug,

Nice job. The former largest wood contractor I know of used custom built airless units for the vertical wood with Ready Seal. Used a truck wash brush and a big container for staining the floors.

We use a Decker 5'er (HLVP) and Ready Seal. But we are small potatoes.

Thanks Rick. A freind of mine has a Deckster he said I could borrow on my next job. I do have an airless but I have only used it for latex on house paint jobs. I keep an eye on the wood forum even though I don't do too much. You guys do great work.

Nice job Doug. Are you staying busy? I have been real busy lately. I have a deck resto next week. Actually it will be the first one this season. Everything has been house washes & gutter cleaning.

Doug,

Like you, we also have an airless, a Binks Super Bee, about 150 lbs. Only use it for Cabot solid stains, and has not been used this year.

For production work, a truck wash brush for deck floors is the way to go. Vertical wood, I still like the Pump-Tec HVLP with Ready Seal. Depends on what you know. Numerous ways to skin a cat.

Things have slowed down some. I have a couple of shopping centers scheduled this month. Residential has been really slow. Doing a quote this morning for a resi job. Next week I will be quoting another apartment complex. Hopefully I'll land that one. A few other irons in the fire. I'm really trying to get some more commercial work going but it is tough.

Good to hear you're busy.
