It's raining - Nov 26th, 07, 01:37 PM

Today as I sit at my desk and watch some much needed rain fall I feel disheartened.
I know you are asking yourself why are you disheartened when you are getting rain?Well,It stems from a news letter I read this morning from Sun Brite Supply in which Pete Marentay has made a point to criticize Carlos' efforts in establishing an industry wide relief fund.
I would have never imagined that one guy would meet so much opposition for trying to help his fellow contractors and the industry we are all part of.

Carlos keep up the good work. What you are doing is noble and I honestly feel that some of those offering their criticism are only doing so out of spite or jealousy because it wasn't their idea.

I dont see how that newsletter article criticized the effort at all. I thought he just brought up some good cons to all the pros. And then had some solutions to his cons. Im sure Carlos' heart is in the right place, and it may be a good idea, but what the hell is some one in California doing leading the charge. all Ive seen is a bunch of whining about the situation. Hell even the Governor got criticized for having a prayer service. Seams to me Pete was offering solutions. I may have missed some of the threads on this but the only other one I saw doing anything real about anything was Celeste.

Wow,Jon I have only been emailing state officials on behalf of myself and other Ga. PWing company owners for almost a year.
I challenged my fellow PWing contractors to start an email campaign over a month ago.So our voices would on the minds of those in charge of the decision making process when water restrictions and bans are being considered.
Pete didn't offer any new ideas that haven't already been talked about on the various BBS.Trust me we are all looking into dry cleaning products, media blasting,as well as,other services that we may be able to offer to customers if water restrictions continue to tighten.

What exactly is your personal problem with Carlos' idea of a relief fund and why the hell is someone in Fl. criticizing someone in Cali for going above and beyond to help his fellow human being?

Congrats on some rain!..

I don't take that newsletter as critisizm but more as commentary lead in to selling recovery products albeit heartfelt. If anything, commentary in general promotes further attention to ideas and really the general population hears nothing of grass root efforts without. Whether fanciful or not I like hearing of a private based help initiative.
Would it be discriminitive if say only known/contributorial PW's of perticular orgs or affiliations benefit off such an idea?. I don't know as at some point it becomes about survival of the fittest. Like those that can't adapt and learn from current state of their affairs may have to submit to change in the way of a physical move or move in carreer....

Sorry to hear ya down abit Scott....with a little faith and action things will pull through for those that recognize and act accordingly.

I know Scott and Carlos both have been working tirelessly, each leading different charges to do what they feel is the right thing. We all have to contribute in any way possible.......lots of small things can add up to large noticeable actions.

Scott,

Thanks you for your comments. I have been out all day and am just catching up on this. Interesting.

I just wish Pete would have taken it one step further and offered our contractors in the drought region a discount on the products/services he was pushing in the newsletter that was in bold type:

"i.e. A good supplier, particularly Sun Brite Supply, can design a reclaim system to capture the water you use and return it to your tank for re-use...."

As discussed before with many folks and posted on the BBS's this relief fund will not be the answer to the drought problem nor was it intended to do that.

It is obvious that the establisment of the Relief Fund did indeed prompt the industry to recognize that the drought was a very serious issue. It took several weeks for the PWNA to finally provide some information on their site. Sunbrite just sent out their email newsletter.

Jon...if you want to know why I lead the charge from way out here in CA, feel free to give me a call anytime. 707.812.3702 or better yet take the time and visit all the BBS ~ PWI, TGS and PTState as they all have the explanation on them. I think the threads are entitled ~ "Purpose of Relief Fund".

Believe it or not I ask that same question everyday as to why I took this up when I look at a national organization that supposedly represents washers in our industry but did not do anything until the relief fund was established. I also look at a major supplier located in GA (drought central) and see we are just getting a newsletter from them addressing the drought problem ~ after the relief fund has been established and which the information in the newsletter has been discussed 10 fold by other people across the United State already! Maybe you should be asking why those 2 outfits DID NOT lead the charge vs. why I and a few others are!

The Relief Fund will stay and continue to move forward. I just received an email from Joe Walters today. I approached him to see if he could oversee the account prior to Toms RT. After I speak with him, the account # will be announced and whoever wants to donate feel free...whoever doesn't feel free!!!

Scott great to hear you guys finally got some measurable rain. I talked to Jeff Robinson last week who is from the Gwinnett County area. Its unbelievable how low the water Reservoir levels are there. Hopefully its a wet bunch of months for you guys to help get those levels to where they should be.

Its great to see people taking the time and sometimes money to give back to help ones in need. No matter how you slice it what Carlos, Scott and others are doing to help ones in need during this drought is what this industry needs more of.

I can understand Scott's position. There are too many naysayers and not enough do'ers. We talked about different options at Tom's RT and although the ideas may have been a bit big in scope, they were well though out. It showed me that there are some people who care.
One thing specifically discussed was a funding system to be set up with a reputable agency. There should be more information coming out as things develop.

Still praying for rain down south.

Rod!~

Is I stated, I have not seen all the posts about the topic. In no way was I criticizing Carlos. What He's doing is admirable. I was only responding to a negative critique of Pete's newsletter. I see no harm In what Pete said, nor did i see anything negative about Carlos' effort, which is what you said Pete made a point of criticizing. The solutions Pete mentioned are valid, wether they have been brought up before or not. If you have been leading the charge, good for you. I stand corrected.
