Drought in Rabin County - Mar 6th, 08, 10:07 AM

I have several condo jobs coming up in City of Sky Vally in Rabun, County, Ga.
When I called they told me the only way to wash was if I brought my own water.
I thought that mostly we could wash any where in the state using city water w/ proper credentials, but looks like this is going to be one of thier exceptions.

Al.. ouch. It doesn't seem like they are leaving you many alternatives. Are you set up to do what they are asking? Are water trucks available in the drought regions? I'm guessing supply and demand is going to kick in full effect for you guys down there and if trucks are available they will nail you on a per/g charge for transported water.

Yes, My reclaim rig can carry 1050 gals water and my other rig can carry 525 gals.
I am just hesitant to carry 1050 gals of water to the top of a mountain with a 24 ft gooseneck filled with equipment.
I have not checked out reliefforwashers yet, but how would that work?

Every county in the 61 county level four restricted area can impose further restrictions beyond the state mandate. There are several counties that have restricted all outdoor water use including commercial. If you are planning on working in an unfamiliar area its best to check with the local officials first.

I checked on a water truck rental awhile back. I don't remember the daily rate but you needed a CDL license and 1 million in liability insurance to rent one. Then you still have to find a water supply to fill it.

This is the link page for Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. He was instrumental in getting the lawn watering by single hose agenda pushed through to help stimulate the lawn care and land scaping industry in the stae.
georgia.gov - Contact Us

Al,
How long will the project take to complete? They are enforcing a ban in excess of what the state of Ga has set forth for pressure washing companies which discriminates against your company. They are allowing single hose lawn watering at this time so there may be room to move on the matter.
It wouldn't hurt to ask the city council for an exemption for teh duration of the project.

Get the property behind you as well - they can push if it is a matter of public health.

House bill 1281 has already passed one part of the voting process. It basically states cities and counties cannot impose tougher restrictions than those passed by the governor. I saw this as a ray of hope as it has not been banned by the governor yet.

Good to hear that Jeff.

This is an email I sent to the Lt.Governors office today.

Dear Lt. Governor Cagle,
Relief for Washers would like to introduce you to our group and website. http://www.reliefforwashers.com/

Our group represents the pressure washing industry and contractor in drought stricken areas of the United States. We are working to educate decision makers and pressure washing contractors at the local and state level on the advantages of pressure washing during times of drought versus other cleaning methods or not cleaning at all.
Many cities in north Ga. have banned pressure washing exclusively, although the states guidelines give our industry an exemption. While we understand that each city may enforce stricter restrictions than the state guidelines, we feel that our industry is being unjustly discriminated against since most cities in the same area continue to allow other water related businesses to operate.
In recent months in the Atlanta area alone several dozen pressure washing contractors have been forced out of business due to a ban of pressure washing. That number increases daily and unlike the agricultural community there is no federal or state safety net to assist these small business owners.
The recent addition of single hose lawn watering to help stimulate the lawn and landscaping industry shows that the state recognizes the small business owners plight. We here at RFW ask that you take a look at our site and consider similar state wide initiatives for our industry as you have shown for the lawn and landscaping industries.

Thank you,
Relief for Washers

This went to the Lt. Governor in Georgia this evening.

Dear Lt. Governor Cagle,

As a business owner and operator from the pressure washing industry I am writing to you today out of deep concern about the current and potential water restrictions in Georgia. The pressure washing industry places great importance on water conservation, to the extent that we are keenly aware of our responsibility to conserve water during these troubling times.

Since late 2007, Relief for Washers has observed power washing companies in your state experience significant setbacks due to the ambiguous policy changes as it relates to what is permitted under specific level categories.

Our industry has been a victim to unfair media campaigns in which ill-informed reporters and newscasters have arbitrarily reported to the general public that pressure washing has been banned. As of a result of this, our ability to continue to work within the water conservation guidelines has been deeply hampered or stopped all together. Many of our fellow pressure washers in the state of Georgia have already gone out of business due to misguided information that has been reported to the general public ~ our customers.

The pressure washing industry warrants careful consideration from local, county and state officials when deciding to implement cohesive water restriction guidelines. Contrary to what is the perception of our industry, we actually provide a conglomerate of necessary services to communities abroad i.e. health and safety issues to mold prevention. These services help sustain and keep other businesses operational and open. Again, the negative proclivities about the pressure washing industry will ultimately have an adverse effect on several different industries, to the extent that these industries will find it cumbersome to operate and perform their business in a profitable manner.

The Relief for Washers initiative has taken proactive steps in our attempt to re-educate the general public in our ability to still perform washing services through media outreach and public awareness. Our task is difficult at best, due to today’s perception from the public. However, our voice and commitment is one of a keen sense of direction and purpose. You as a public official can certainly recognize and understand the depth of our situation. We at Relief for Washers implore you and encourage others at the highest level of governement to seriously explore alternate means when it comes to considering further water restrictions.

Sincerely,

Relief for Washers
