North Carolina in Recovery - Mar 15th, 08, 12:53 PM

As of March 11, the ncdrought.org has updated its maps to reflect that NO counties in the State of NC are under D4. The "most affected" counties are showing D3 status.

Further, for all who are included in these areas - please do not be alarmed by this map and the "rules" that are on this particular site or other's that may publish this information. Every city and town who "owns" water have their own restrictions in place....counties themselves impose fewer restrictions due to the fact that private wells are just that - private to the owners who may use THEIR water at their own discretion. One step better is that many of these cities and towns are only restricting personal use of power washers - meaning that companies can still work.

The PWNC has been successful in reducing the perception that everyone in these areas is prohibited from washing. In the meantime, we are now drafting documents that will be available for download for the following purposes:

1) Applying for exemptions in restricted municipal use areas
2) Guidelines for customers to follow when adding their specific need to add to exemption applications
3) Handouts for contractors to provide to their potential customers outlining the benefits of maintaining their properties and for using a professional to do so. This will also reflect restrictions and our ability to continue to provide services either by exemption or by providing water from alternative sources

We continue to work toward the goal of raising awareness of our profession in this area as well as clarifying information that is only "part" of the whole story.

Thank you.

As for my area of Onslow county are on no restrictions. I spoke with Onwasa who is the water authority for Onslow county. They are just asking people to use the water responsibly and if washing is our biz then keep washing.

That is actually the position in many of the D3 counties - even though certain sites indicate that pressure washing is prohibited - it is not being stopped by water officials. The single largest thing stopping anyone from washing in the State of North Carolina is the constant reminder that we're in a drought (where Alamance County is TOO wet to wash - one of the D3 counties mind you)

Local monitoring is the best means of staying in tune. Thank you Dane for the Onslow update

Check your local water restrictions! - Mar 18th, 08, 01:00 PM

According to some maps we (onslow county) are in d3. But we operate off of wells and have no restrictions.

Check your local water restrictions!

Jordan Lake, which is less than 50 miles from Raleigh and nearly exact center of the "drought area" - is the highest we have personally ever seen it. The trees in the center of the photo actually do have a little island under them.

Then why is there a drought? If they are getting that much water, what is considered dry?

Actually, Raleigh doesn't draw from Jordan Lake (which is only 50 miles away!) They (and Pepsi) all suck out of Falls Lake...which is having a little bit harder time recovering for multiple multiple reasons. For Raleigh to use Jordan Lake water isn't "cost effective".
