Question Roof Cleaning Franchises ? - Jun 2nd, 08, 10:34 PM

For as long as we have had a web site, I have got people asking me if I sold, or have any plans to sell Apple Roof Cleaning Franchises.
Lately, I was approached by a company that helps you put together Roof Cleaning Franchises.
They told me I would be an ideal candidate for them to put a Roof Cleaning Franchise together for.
At first, the idea seemed stupid to me, since you can get a lot of free roof cleaning info off the Internet.
And the price they are talking about selling the Roof Cleaning Franchise for was pretty high.
But that could easily be made back and more, the first year.
At THIS time, I have no plans to offer roof cleaning franchises.
And I don't know if I ever will.
But they sure gave me something to THINK about !

no advantage to a franchise in my opinion - Jun 3rd, 08, 12:02 AM

the only companies i have seen offering franchises are the ones that sell their own "exclusive product" which is from what i can tell is a sodium hydroxide base. when i first expanded into the roof cleaning business i looked at the franchises available and i just could not justify paying around 10k for the "exclusive rights" in my area. i would be pretty upset if i had paid that amount and then found out that there is an easier way to clean roofs than the product that i represent. i have actually had some customers think that i was a franchise which was a little flattering. anyone interested in a "douse a house low pressure exterior cleaning" franchise? by the way, i turn 50 tomorrow. bummer.

I "hit" the big 50 2 years ago Rando.
This company found me from research on the Internet, believe it or not!
Rando, I do not tell EVERYTHING I know about roof cleaning.
Lets just say I have some "secrets" I have reserved, and leave it at that.
My experience has taught me that today's friend can be tomorrows ENEMY, so I watch my back now, and only share so much.
The roof cleaning franchise company will handle ALL franchise sales and advertising.
The roof cleaning franchise does NOT have to have an "exclusive product".
IF I do it, and it is only in the THINKING ABOUT IT out loud stage, my franchisees will NOT have to buy from me if they choose not to.
They will be ABLE to buy sodium hypochlorite accelerators, scents to mask the smell, emulsifiers, and time released biocides IF they choose.

There is NO practical way to INSURE the franchisees are buying ONLY from you, and I dont want the bad vibes either.

This "buy from me or else" mentality did in several roof cleaning franchises in the past.
No, IF it happens, and it is JUST a Thought, my franchisees will be paying for my roof cleaning system and my proven marketing methods.

The roof cleaning franchise company has asked me to design a turn key roof cleaning system.
It MAY be based around the Apple Vari Flow System.
I have had "working" Vari Flow systems , but there are still a few small bugs to iron out.
I am confident they can be overcome.
We "abandoned" the Apple Vari Flow system, but only temporarily.
Why ?
Because my guys work on commission, and didn't want me "fooling around with the roof cleaning trucks, LOL
Plus, they pointed out to me that we only clean tile OR shingle roofs.
Since we use DUAL chemical tanks, and dual pumps, a "suggestion" was made by my roof cleaners.
"Why not just use one of our dual tanks for TILE roofs, and the other tank for SHINGLE roofs" ?
So, that is what we do.
Since house washing is NOT our primary business, the "need" for a full blown vari flow system is not there.
HOWEVER, since our franchisees will be just starting out, they MIGHT find the ability to adjust chemical strength "on the fly" useful ?

This is ALL just me thinking out loud at this point.
But, ya never know ........
