Burnt tree - Jun 20th, 08, 04:57 PM

Burnt a lot of leaves and branches on a tree when doing a roof job. Evidently I didn't wet it down enough. Customer wants to know if tree is going to die and should he cut the dead branches. I never killed a tree before and I have no landscaping experience, anybody have similar experience and any advice for me to pass on to customer. I will take responsibility and make things right, just need to know best course of action. Thanks for any help.

Pictures would help. But with that said; Pay to have it trimmed up to match the removed burnt limbs, this will give the customer a sense that you took responsibility, and also give instant aesthetic appeal. Doing your best to make things right will go a long way!!

1. go get photos
2. call a tree expert (of YOUR choice) and arrange to meet them there to consult

I cleaned thousands of roofs and have never ever killed a tree. You might have scorched some leaves but I doubt seriously you killed the entire tree. I would trim it back you are in a southern state it will grow back fuller than ever. Any questions feel free to call me.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm meeting the owners tomorrow, they are really nice people and their roof turned out great. Will just take care of this little problem and continue cleaning with more care of the landscaping. Al

HARD to KILL a tree, unless it is small and young.
I would like see some pictures to advise you on best plan of action.
Telling your customer "I am really sorry" is the first thing to do, perhaps do some extra work for free to "make it right" is a good start.

NO roof cleaner hasn't EVER burnt plants, chit sometimes happens.
HOW you act will determine if the guy will ever refer you to his friends.
Be honest, you did not have a ground man, did you ?

honestly, I was the ground man, my son worked from the roof edge, no other plants or bushes were effected, just this one tall tree right next to where we were spraying. Already apoligized and arranged to meet a tree surgeon tommorrow morning. Have great relationship with the owner and will do the right thing.

TREES are plants too
They MUST be pre wet, and kept watered, like any other plant.
This is NOT for you my friend, but for the newcomers who might not know better.
YOU know better now.
EVERY roof cleaner has burnt/yellowed/killed some plants, or will eventually.
The two magic words "I'm sorry" have proven beneficial to many of us.
There are no :mistakes:, just learning experiences.
The Tree will be fine.

I have a hort degree from a past life. It certianly came in handy being the biggest roof cleaning company ever

1. Name of tree.
2. Pictures.
3. Break a limb that is at least the same dia of a pencil. is it still yellowish green?
4. Location in relation to a gutter or roof valley.
5. was the landscape in good shape to begin with. If plants are on thier last leg to begin with it doesnt take much to push them over the edge.

Call me at the office. If Im not there leave your ph number with one of my girls. 407-949-2086
