I do Chris, just not for roof cleaning. I would never ever try and use a water hose on a roof on a daily basis ,they are very thin walled and will not hold up to the vigours elements on a roof. Shingles and tile can be rough surfaces that require a much better quality hose than garden hose,as an RCIA instructor I would have thought you would know that. Chris ,in my honest opinion, if you can not afford the right equipment, you should not do the job. Go ahead and reply some of your typical comments ,I am waiting.

Mel, I have used decent quality Vinyl garden hose for 6 months cleaning roofs.
Other then kinking, it worked ok.
NOT as good as better hose, but ok, in a pinch.
Tell ya what ?
Give me 5/8 Garden Hose over 3/8 polybraid any day.

OK, WHY don't you "practice what ya preach" and use 3/8 or 1/2 inch for FILL Hose ??

"Roof Cleaning "Gods" do not suggest small, restrictive hose that loses pressure, and choke pumps"

Although we are currently using 300' of 5/8" hose, it IS the Goodyear ribbed orange hose and it IS tough as nails (as I'm sure it is with the 3/4"). Good quality hose is worth the extra $.

Oh YES, it sure is.
But several of us got our start using Garden Hose to clean roofs with.
David, did you ever try smaller roof cleaning hose, and compare to the 5/8 ?
Do you have any "trouble" using 5/8 to clean roofs with ?

Chris,

Yes, we did use the 1/2" "ag" hose that came with our tree spraying rig. I had already ordered the 5/8" but it came in several days after the rig. Monster difference.

If the flow of the 3/4" is to the 5/8" as the 5/8" is to the 1/2", then we could shoot from across the street instead of from the bucket or the ground. I never doubted your larger hose advice since I had seen all the ag charts for distance with different PSI vs. GPM vs. hose ID and length vs. tip size.

Our next pump will be higher gpm and will have the 3/4". I've said before that we'll use the smaller pump and lower gpm with the bucket truck applications (less than half the jobs) and will use the "hoss" for ground and gutter height work. We don't walk on roofs unless we get a flat-ish 3 or 4:12 porch to stand on to shoot high dormer sides on 12:12 Williamsburgs, etc.

Isn't the larger hose "Hard To Use" LOL
According to some, the larger pumps have "Too much Run Off"
I guess they never heard of smaller nozzles, or simply moving faster ?

I personally LOVE the Mean Green Hose.
And, when I build a roof cleaning truck JUST for me, it WILL have 3/4 Mean Green on it.
It did not last for 5 Months, but we do not rinse.
I rinse out stuff when I work, but I seldom do anymore.
FAR more valueable to my company out selling jobs.

I think for cleaning roofs on an occassional basis, rinsed out promptly, it will be fine.
It is real lightweight, easy to work with.

My guys just dont like the 3/4 Ag Hose, so we "make do" with 5/8.

But 3/4 is even BETTER, as you know.

just for clarification - Aug 6th, 08, 11:54 PM

I am looking at a Delevan for roof cleaning, am I understanding everyone correctly that the Goodyear ribbed orange hose 5/8 or 3/4 is sufficient for rinsing with faucet pressure? What type of tip or spray gun are you using on the end of it?
