I don't like how the industry has gone lately - and I don't like a lot of members on the boards lately. So I am being extra careful what I dispell now a days. Roofs are extra sensitive for me lately. There are so many hacks that have underbid my pricing by as much as 80% - that unless I build a clientale for roof washing - I don't see myself lasting in this business. Chris has gotten screwed. At least in roof washing I can sell the safety of a contractor that knows what he is doing and has insurances. It's hard to scare a homeowner into a house washing job - they for the most part don't want to pay the overhead of a legit contractor.

Bottom line - roof washing can be very lucrative for me in my area - and I know for a fact some of my competitors have read my postings here - and they have done nothing to contribute - and they do everything to lowball me. So for the time being if I have a good thing going in roof washing - only my closest pals are going to know what I am doing.

Chris called me yesterday and we spoke about the degradation of these boards as of late, very much turning into a spectator sport for the lurkers. I don't blame you one bit for holding what you've got, I'm sure as soon as it is divulged there will be someone saying in a loud voice, (while hiding behind a computer screen mind ya') "YOU CAN"T DO THAT" Chris spoke of a friend of his who cleans roofs and ONLY watches these boards, doesn't want to get ganged up on. I have been part of some child like "discussions" on here and other boards as well,..but as I told Chris yesterday, I'm done with all of that and just want to try and use these boards as an asset to my business and contribute when I can. Im seeing people on here trying to provoke arguments with other board members and simply adding nothing to what we do, I'm done being a part of that crap.

My attitudes towards these boards is to share marketing and business ideas. The actual day to day of the equipment and the proper chems - I am done with that. Seeing all those threads of 1/2" vs 5/8" and all the flaming was absolutely atrocious.
I enjoy watching my competitors using loads of pressure on roofs - makes my job easy selling my roof jobs. That's why I want to hold on to what I have.

OOPS, I SEE what you are talking about, you mean my iigig kind of stuff, right ?
I had a LOT of pics to post, and it requires text before it allows you to post.
I just took a little shortcut.
I pretty much said what I wanted to say in the first post, the other posts were just so I could fit all the pics in.

Jeff
I'm with you Jeff. Here is a post I put on PT a couple of days ago.....

I'm just wondering when all this foolish bickering is gonna end. It's nuts. Everyone has got a way of doing things that works for them. The outcome and making the customer happy is what really matters most and is what creates a good solid customer base for all business owners. I'm positive that we all have jobs that we have done in the past that we are proud of. I for one have a few but I'm not going to keep re-hashing the same old pics and I'm sure not gonna go round and round about how my way is the best. Chris has helped me alot, Joe from amen has helped, Frank from All American who is no longer in business after 21 was a great inspiration to me and helped me tremendously and there have been others. We are all still good friends and still keep in touch. Have we all been out on the same bids at times. YES. Did I always get the job. No! Did they? No, yet we all got along and still remained friends. I'm sure that if other contractors on these boards (including the ones bickering all the time) and I got to know each other and talked (without all the bashing) we could all share information, war stories Etc...And probably be the best of friends. It just so happens that right now the only person I see and speak to is Chris. Is that a bad thing? No. But to some it seems so. I am a big boy. Been around for a long time and have dealt with many different personalities. I know when I'm being Bs'ed, Lied to and I know when it is time for me to part ways with such people. I for one am not nor will I ever take suggestions from anyone to whom I should be associated with. Like I said. I'm a big boy and will make my own choices. Lets see if we can all agree on a few things here.
We are all in business for ourselves---Correct?
We all want our business to succeed--Correct?
We all do our own form of advertising----Correct?
We should all be there for each other for advice or for when we need to bring in another company to help out on a big job---Correct?
We all have families to feed, bills to pay, and from time to time we have our hobbies that we like to indulge in. (toys, vacations) Correct?
Being proud of what you do and bragging about your accomplishments is a wonderful thing to be able to do and it is human nature and it is and should always be incouraged. But going round and round and showing the same old pictures of He did this and I did that to personally attack other business owners is just down right childish. We are all adults here. I doubt that any of this Hatfield and McCoy battle is going to end anytime soon but speaking only for myself I think its nuts. I take no sides with anyone and I am in a party of one. Neutral. I am not associated with any forum board clicks nor am I affiliated with any school yard gangs. I see from pics and posts that all of you are great at what you do and I admire you all for all of your work. There is plenty of work out there for all of us! Lets all concentrate on that and being friends!

Nor does it for me Scott.
When Jeff agreed with me in THIS thread, you POSTED "Does anyone hear SUCKING Sounds " indicating Jeff was "sucking up" to me.
THEN, you edited it!
Jeff saw it, and I am subscribed to the thread.
Can't "edit" that you know ?

Scott, YOU tried to intimidate Jeff for agreeing with me.

I know people that are afraid to post here anymore, afraid to "offend" the little "gang"

THEN, it gets spun that I am "ruining" the forum.

Why did you post what you did, then use your Moderator Privlieges to cover it up ?

Great day in Pa for roof cleaning today. Very sunny and dry. Got only one done though. Got your voice mail a while ago Chris, didn't understand that either. I seen nothing wrong with what you put up.

The post with the periods in it #170 was about you mugging for a pic pointing to the word "worship" on a church sign and it was unedited.I think it was inappropriate and unprofessional and disrespectful to a house of worship.
There now you know what it was that I didn't post. You're playing the victim card and we all know you are far from a victim in this whole roof cleaning battle.

Scott - I remember you wrote some harsh criticsms of Apple Sauce back when I exposed the myth behind what the borax was doing. I was wondering are you mad at Chris because you feel he comes on these boards and says it's his way or the highway? Or you don't like the technicals being exposed - to keep lowballers in the dark? I know Don is a pretty succesful roof cleaner - and he espouses you don't need anything but a 50/50 solution - and I certainly won't argue that. I think both 'recipes' on these boards are well known - and it's up to the individual to try his hands at each. I don't think Chris has gotten in the way of that, do you?

You can clean a roof with a tooth brush for all I care, as long as, you respect the fact there are other methods that work.

Scott I certainly respect other methods that work - I know that most guys are now highly against sodium hydroxide based cleaners for roofs - or high pressure for that matter. I don't think Don's methods were ever compared to those. I think alot of folks respect Don's methods.

But you don't respect all methods - Do you Scott? You don't respect that 'Ask the Builder' guy with his percarbs and brushing a roof - or using a pressure washer on the roof? I certainly don't respect those methods.

Sorry, that is a BIG thread, and I got Post 176 and 170 confused.
It IS post 176 in The thread below where you post "I Hear Sucking Sounds"
http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/up-roof-asphalt-tile-shake-cleaning/4855-apartment-complex-12.html

This is a Clear INSULT to Jeff, for his support of my position.
Scott, you can sugar coat it all you want with these words ""
I am me always,no BS and no candy coating and I say exactly what I think about any given situation.""

That does NOT change the fact you INSULTED another member.

I wish I could say the same Jeff. We had bad t-storms at 5 am this morning. It did however clear out by 8 am only to return by 11:30 am but not before I was able to get a job in. I cleaned a 1400sq Shingle Roof, Did a Soft Wash on the exterior, Cleaned their Pool Deck and 2 Small Patio's in the back yard. Unfortunatly like a dumb a#@ I was in a hurry this morning and forgot my camera. I wish I had it to. The Shingle Roof was black. The H/O could not believe the results. Quite frankly, neither could I. The natural color was a lt gray and was not cleaned in the 12yrs that they had been there. I was able to get the job done in 2 hrs with the help of my wife as the ground person. She does a great job! The house was in South Tampa and at the expence of sounding bought or being labeled Fanboi I will tell you that the job was given to me by someone who only does Roofs. These people wanted the whole package deal. This other company new I could handle the job (as I always do. lol) and given the fact that I have been slow this week and they haven't they/he deceided to help me out and give me the opportunity to make some extra money. Thank you Chris! The job is done and the customer is very happy.
