I like the idea, but have you ever filled that tank all the way up and moved it? It seems like quite a load. I have some 15gal's on hand carts and they are a handful sometimes when they are full.

Here is the way my rig is set up.

I have two 40 gallon tanks mounted on the back of it with a sure flow pump. I also have a dual gun rig and can change it to a one gun rig just by popping a quick disconnect and putting in a plug. When I do that, I can use one of my 200' hoses for applying chemicals with the sureflow and the other 200' hose and gun to do my cleaning.

Or,

I can just use a downstreamer thats dropped into one of the tanks and pull chems that way then change tips to stop drawing chemicals and start cleaning.

We don't use the rig this way very often but it's set up so I can do it anyway that I want. Or of course I can just use an x jet and a 5 gallon bucket, that's what my guys like to use the most.

By the way, Beth, did you ever get those two 5 gallon buckets from the round table resteraunt? If not let me know and I'll see if I can get them.

Henry,
No, never had time to get back to them and ask about them - sure could use them though...

GymRat,
Looks good. My tank is vertical, but I think I like yours better (better torque management, not quite such a heavy load on the hands). I like your hose reel better, too. Unfortunately, my trailer can't accomodate such a design, so mine doesn't look quite so professional, but it gets the job done. Let us know how it works!

Hey Beth, If I remember I'll check tomorrow. I've got to go out and run an estimate on a school.

I too like the way the rig looks. Well thought out and diggin' the hose reel attachment.
I wonder....
a) if the cart tires will hold that load when full
b) if it will be too unweildy for you to handle when full (although the tank being horiz. will help a lot like Ryan said.)
c) the battery pack looks pretty cool. Like a jump start pack for a car. But will it have the amp/hours to run the pump long term or it is just a big booster?
d) what size pump are you running?

Random thoughts...

when using bleach to clean roofs, do you spray it on straight or dillute it?

Thumbs up Nov 20th, 04, 10:53 PM

Tried my new roof cleaning rig out today and will give it a thumbs up. Cleaned one roof and one side of another house and my battery pack is still has a 3/4 of a charge. Had 30 gallons in my 35 gallon tank and it was not hard to move around. My shurflo pump is a 1.8 gpm- 60psi pump with a 100' of hose. I would have liked to have been able to put my chemical down a little faster. I don't know if my pump is a little undersized, or if it is my spray wand, which is a telescoping 6' sprayer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

John

Also, how long do you let it dwell and do you rinse it off?

Thanks for the input!
If it is bleach, I'd use it straight (5.25% or so Sodium Hypochlorite). If it is pool Chlorine (10.5%-12% SH) then I'd cut it 1:1 with water.

By the time you're done applying chems, the roof is ready to rinse. Depending on the severity of the mold/algae/moss, you may have to reapply in spots.

As far as using handtruck mounted roof cleaning setups, I don't get it. Why not leave the whole thing on the trailer? I have my hose reel, shurflo, tank, and batter mounted on the back of the trailer. The shurflo is actually wired into my washer battery...it never draws it low enough to worry about, and the washer keeps it charged. I get plenty of flow through 200' of polybraided hose. All I need to do is pull the hose off the hose reel, flip the switch on the shurflo, and climb the ladder. Why drag a heavy tank all over?

It is probably the wand...I use a similar pump, and have a home-made pvc wand with a 4515 tip that gives me plenty of flow. Any more than I get would be hard to control. Typical 2000 square foot roof can be done with 30 gallons or so of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite.

I agree with Mike,it's a good bet the inside diameter is small and not giving you decent flow.A "Phelps Wand" as we have dubbed them on TCN works great for applying chlorine from a shurflo.
It can be made from 1/2"(4ft to 7 ft) schedule 40pvc and glued together,or schedule 80 pvc(grey) and theaded. The pic is of the the latest design by Don Phelps.

You'll need a 1/2" to 1/4" nylon reducer in the end with the elbow to screw an 8010 tip in.Another nylon reducer 1/2" to 1/4" for the ball valve end so you can screw in a stainless QC.Don Phelps has shared this design with a lot of guys that use it very successfully.

My sureflow wands are made of 12" regular 1/4" threaded pipe with a trigger gun and q/c on one end, and a 1/4" q/c on the other end for the spray tip. I use a 25045 and it delivers adequate spray with a 60psi 1.8 pump.

I like the idea of adding a reel to the cart.
